Jon Allen

Quote:You cant know Allen for last night getting doubled teamed all game, and give Garret a free pass when he didnt make plays for getting doubled in a lot of gamesAgreed. Allen has also jumped off the tape all year fighting off double teams. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I'll be honest I haven't watched a lot of Bama games today. I cam away unimpressed last night, but it is just one game.
My question is: what position does he project to in the NFL? Interior rusher and defensive end? If so, is he really a better prospect than FSU's (and Jacksonville own) DeMarcus Walker?

3-4 DE or 3-tech DT in a 4-3 would probably be where you want him. Yes, better prospect than Walker.

He would fit in just fine for us at DE in base and then kick in next to Malik in nickel. He is way better than Walker.

I've been impressed with Walker as a pass rusher - he seems to have good inside moves and creates constant pressure. I believe he ended the season with over 15 sacks. Still, not sure the 3T DT is a premium position of need for us. Do you think he merits a top 5 selection?

I wouldn't consider him for the Jags at all. I think he's DT only and not as good as Sheldon Day. I would take Allen top 5, but I would also be very happy with Adams, Hooker, or Tim Williams.
I like Allen, but we need a different type of talent. I'm tired of our big guys getting in the backfield and not being able to get the QB. Jared Odrick does that all the time.
I'd rather take the chance on Derek Barnett.
Shock the world
Tim Williams got stone walled last night. Anderson was better.

Cleveland is going to take Watson with the first pick.
They have to. They let Wentz get away last year. RG3 is not the answer. Maybe they go after Romo. But Watson is there for the taking. He beat the best team in college football with a performance for the ages. He can spin it and he can beat you with his legs. He has played in a lot of big games so competition was not a problem. Watson is going to be the first player picked. This will let some good players shuffle down to number 4. Myles Garrett, Peppers, Allen, I'm sure a LT will sneak up in there. Maybe Trubiski if he declares. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Cleveland is going to take Watson with the first pick. Ugh. Watson can barely throw a 5 yard out. Cleveland absolutely cannot take this guy. Gimmicky offense that clemson runs..

Quote:Ugh. Watson can barely throw a 5 yard out. Are you being serious? He was abusing Alabama by dropping Dilfer Dimes to Williams. He made his stock sky rocket after that game. Get outta here with that 5 yard out stuff.

Quote:Cleveland is going to take Watson with the first pick. From everything I have read, Cleveland prefers Mitch Trubisky and so does most of the NFL. I wouldn't even be surprised to see Deshone Kizer be taken ahead of Watson. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Id be happy with Allen but I feel Adams is more valuable. If we go oline from 2-7 I'd be good with that.

So how far would you see him dropping? If he drops to the bottom of the first round, as a Jaguar fan, that would get my attention. Quote:Ugh. Watson can barely throw a 5 yard out. Cleveland absolutely cannot take this guy. Gimmicky offense that clemson runs..But he beat Bama! Folks, Clemson's offense simplifies things greatly for Watson. If you watch his games, 9 times out of 10, he only has to make one read. He has his guy as soon as the ball is snapped. I have yet to see him make it to a third option and the second read may already be predefined by the guys on the sideline. Watson in the 2nd or 3rd might be palatable.
Allen scares me. We have a ton of good interior defensive lineman who can get some push, can stop the run, and will sack the QB every so often. But you rarely get a dominant pass rusher from a player like that. If Allen was the next Warren Sapp, then we might be on to something. But Sapp was an unusually great athlete. I'm not sure Allen is. Allen just isnt the type of player we need. We need a dominant pass rusher and typically those are outside guys.
Watson might be one more guy in a long list of examples of being a great college QB but just doesnt have the unique skillset needed to play at a high level in the NFL. Of all the professional sports, the NFL is the one where you really need to walk through the door with the required athletic gifts. And if you dont have it, then at best you'll be just another guy. Watson is good at everything. But doesnt have a great arm. Isnt an elite runner. Isnt even all that big... what is he 6'1 or 6'2? At worst the guy should have a great career as a backup earning tons of money. I'm sure he'll end up starting some games here or there during his career due to circumstance. But I'd be really surprised if he became a fulltime starter. ________________________________________________ Scouting well is all that matters. Draft philosophy is all fluff. Quote:So how far would you see him dropping? If he drops to the bottom of the first round, as a Jaguar fan, that would get my attention. He won't drop very far. I currently have Trubisky going to the Jets, Watson going to the Browns with their second pick in round 1 and Kizer to Arizona. I then have Mahomes going to Chicago, Kaaya to the Bills and Davis Webb to Houston in round 2. In round 3, I have Jerod Evans to the Niners. I have the Browns and Bears doubling down on QB by taking Antonio Pipkin and Nathan Peterman and Chad Kelly going to the Steelers all in round 6.

Sig bet?
Quote:so you dont think 1 QB will get drafted in the top 3? Sig bet? No, I don't. I'm not gonna bet. I also think that teams know this is a very risky QB. I would say the failure rate for this class is about 75%. I just don't see any solid starters coming from this class. |
