The seventh pick, #39 overall, if Tampa Bay loses.

I like having the Falcons close by in the draft order just in case "our guy, whoever that may be" is gone, It increases our chances we could trade back a few spots.

I just checked the score update. Saints 42, Buccaneers 17, early in the fourth quarter. Is it safe to say we clinched the #39 pick yet?

Quote:The Risk is: Matthews will most likely go #3 via trade with ATL....so he won't be there @ #4 just like Blackmon wasn't...

This post raises several questions.

1.  If the Jaguars are in position to get their QB of the future or a stud pass rushing DE/LEO, why would they trade down?

2.  Alanta clearly needs a LT, but they are arguably recovering from the boatload of picks surrendered for Julio Jones.  Why wouldn't they stand pat and take advantage of the tackle depth?  For that matter, why have a double dose of surrendering picks and squandering possible starters and depth?  They are NOT just a LT away.  They need a pass rusher, a TE and arguably a CB and a RB.

3.  If Atlanta is counting on good will from Caldwell to lessen the cost of the trade up, how does it benefit Jacksonville to do so?  Unlike Atlanta, they are more than just a small handful of players away from returning to possible playoff contention.

I don't see Atlanta as being a threat to take Matthews under the circumstances.

Agreed...

Carr/Manziel/Mack/Barr all look good value @ #6.  Even outside chance @ Watkins/Evans being decent value @ #6

If we like several guys, trading down to #6 would be stupid.

There's gonna be some elite level talents available when we pick - lets hope we just get the right guy.

The more I think about it, the more intrigued I am with Johnny Football.  He is a boom or bust pick... but if you hit on him, you've got yourself a superstar at QB.

Also, I really do like Barr...

The Rams wont draft Clowney, and if they fell they cant miss on Mathews Clowney will fall to us

Good point, but its not just Atlanta they need to worry about.  In this scenario a potential franchise LT (who some would argue is graded higher than Joekel) has now slipped to #3...teams would start to get antsy and see about trading up to get him before St Louis (if Cleveland traded up).

Man I love this time of year...Draft speculation is so much fun.

The Falcons may want to jump over the Raiders, who are #4, if the Raiders also need a left tackle. Do you think that would be necessary to pick Matthews?

1.) This is Assuming Bridgewater goes #1...Rams trade with Browns who take Clowney...your "Studs" at the positions listed are gone. At #6 Carr/Manziel/Mack or even chance Barr falls to #6 shows value over just Barr @ #3.

2.) Matthews as of today is the "Stud" OT...the current ATL FO has shown they aren't afraid to trade up for their guy.  Jax would most likely take a 3rd to drop to #6.  Is a 3rd seen as too much to ATL to get the "Clowney/Bridgewater" of LTs in this draft?

3.) Kinda answered it in #1....if we are assuming Clowney/Bridgewater are gone and we don't want RT @ #3....is the drop off from Barr to Mack that significant to where an extra 3rd to fill an additional hole isn't worth it?

If we like Carr/Barr/Manziel/Mack why wouldn't dropping back to #6 getting an extra 3rd and still getting one of those be smart?

Agreed there are other teams that need LT, but that's where the depth of the tackle class kicks in and suppresses that market.

But we agree completely about draft speculation.  That makes the offseason even remotely bearable.

Quote:Whether you like it or not, Matthews is almost as can't-miss as Luke Joeckel was last year.

The Rams aren't stupid enough to pass on Matthews for a lesser player and a few picks.

Yea Matthews is a better player then Jockel, Matthews already knows how to play RT and LT and has the bloodline, and the fact that the Rams already have another 1st round pick, I think they will pick the franchise LT at 2 and then get someone else later.

Do the Browns need a defensive end more than a linebacker? The Colts will get a 20-something pick, depending on how far they go in the playoffs, so the Browns will be picking one stud player and one very good, but not elite player in the first round.

I mean if we like several guys who got top 5 grades.

I'm going off Bullseye's hypothetical....he was using the browns as a team that has a ton of ammo...
