Chip Kelly interviewing as OC

Quote:And Coughlin is anything but mediocre.
Which is why he wasn't in my list of mediocrity. Point is there past performance doesn't speak well to them being successful. I'm not sure just Coughlin can balance that out.

Quote:This is all accurate. The only rub is that many of Blake's turnovers are a direct result of his poor mechanics, and there were others that were something besides poor decision making.

Just breaking down a few games with multiple picks you get:

- Baltimore pick #1 - Inaccurate pass due to not stepping into throw. Released the ball with feet shoulder width apart. Came up short and didn't lead Robinson toward sideline enough. He had a defender preventing him from stepping into it at the last second as well. Decent example of better mechanics potentially being the answer here.

- Baltimore pick #2 - Tipped at line of scrimmage. LG was beaten badly and DT got his hands up.

- Baltimore pick #3 - Last minute desperation pass into coverage with :25 on the clock.

-------------------------------------------

Oakland pick #1 - Horrible decision by Bortles. Stares down Lee , under throws him and Amerson sees it coming.

Oakland pick #2 - 1:20 left on the clock and Bortles throws to Robinson on an in-route. He's pretty well covered (read: loafing when down on the scoreboard by multiple TDs) - so Blake throws it low where Allen can go down with the catch and it's away from defender somewhat.

The CB just gets a hand on Robinson's left forearm and Robinson tips the ball straight to the safety for a pick.

--------------------------------------------

Detroit pick #1 - Bortles throws too high for Lee and it's a tip-drill pick by an alert DB. Lee was prevented from intervening on the tip drill by a blatant face mask. Bad throw by Bortles - but largely due to poor footwork and a wonky wind-up on this one. This is one that an offseason tune-up may fix.

Detroit pick #2 - Bortles throws well behind a crossing Lee and it hits his foot and is tipped to the defender. Bad pass by Bortles - no excuses to be made on this one.

-------------------------------------------

Not apologizing for Bortles here - I'm one of his harshest critics - but there have been a number of factors contributing.

But you can see that out of 7 randomly chosen INTs - he had a few that better mechanics could fix and a few that simply weren't his fault.

I'd post gifs but I've been warned they are against COC if not publicly available from the league.

That's messed up. Don't you pull the gifs from the All 22 film?

Yes.

I've been told I can't do that anymore.

Great post and its true every qb suffers a tip int or two. But Bortles is lazy with the football more often than not and it costs this team many times over.

Bortles was near the top of the league in dropped interceptions the last few years so I think it balances out.

Quote:Listen, if you have a son, can he throw a spiral with a football?
I know where you are going.

I've seen Bortles throw spirals.

I've also seen the best QBs get by with ducks.

He's got to find a comfort zone.

Also.. this is directly tied to the wonky arm motion.

Yeah, the day that happens is the day you guys get a blizzard in Duval.  Laughing

You guys can turn the Chip Kelly OC thread into a pile on Bortles thing if you want.

I've never claimed he is better than he has been.

Just that he can get better.

If you think a 25 year old is what he is... then fine.

I'm certainly not trying to change anyone's opinion. Just offering mine.

The quick fix isn't there. The change in Bortles is possible.

I wouldn't waste my time hoping for Tyrod, Romo, or Watson this coming season is all.

They want Bortles to get better and succeed. You all should too.

Be pessimistic if you want about a young QB turning the ball over too much. I won't look for excuses there. He hasn't played up to where we thought he would go in 2016.

He will get 2017 to do that.

At least... half of it.

But they are available to the public? Makes no sense. That is official NFL content which I was under the impression they had to be?

I thought that happened already when Gus Bradley was Coach.  He always went to Dairy Queen and got everyone a Blizzard.

(Sorry, can't resist this ice cream joke)

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

If it's part of game-pass it's a subscription.  I was informed I should only post gifs from videos publicly available at NFL.com or jaguars.com.

It stinks because the gifs often clear up a disagreement or steer a topic back to relevant discussion.

My ketchup bottle said Hackett is still the OC and Kelly is the new waterboy.

My "sauces" don't talk unfortunately. But my "gut" says Kelly as OC and Hackett as QB coach with a controlled pace system.

We'll give your bottle the benefit of the doubt.

Any word from that Coleman's mustard?  Got any Marmite? They may be legit sauces.
