Last two games were against terrible secondaries. Offense would have looked good under Olsen. 

The last game under Olsen was Oct. 27 at Tennessee-one of those same bad secondaries we faced in the last two games.

 

I don't consider that game particularly memorable for Bortles.

I'm inclined to view Hackett as an 'okay' choice. He may not be the next 'greatest thang' to be here, but he'll do. I have to also say that I'm in agreement with BklnJag and Hurricane about Gus. To be certain, Gus was not the guy we needed for head coach; however, it's oversimplifying our issues to imply that Gus was what it was all about. We have an unpredictable quarterback in Bortles and essentially the same personnel that helped lead us to a whopping 3-13 record.

 

I was never a fan of Gus here, but I also think that our failure to produce wins is the responsibility of more than our former head coach.

I think Hackett and an offseason like two years ago can help Blake return to his 2015 form. Unfortunately, as most people agree, 2015 wasn't good enough. 

 

2015 Blake with the team we have now probably wins 6-7 games. He needs to return to that form and then take another significant step forward before we can discuss playoffs.

 

I think the odds of that are slim, but possible.

They won 5 games in 2015 with a horrendous defense. If 2015 Blake comes back, limits turnovers and the defense continues to ascend, I can guarantee you the Jags win 8-10 games.

In the last 9 games with Hackett, Blake had 7 interceptions. In the first 7 games with Olson, he had 9 interceptions. In the Jags last 8 losses, they lost by an average of 5 points.

 

No one has any idea how this hire is going to go but I'm obviously willing to give this man a chance. The whole offensive unit apparently likes him and if Blake goes to Cali and gets in shape (which I think he will) you could see a whole new offense. If they go out and spend money on a good guard in FA to open up some holes for whomever is RB next year, we might have something.

This. All new phenoms have to start somewhere. We could very well be lamenting the fact that Hackett is off to be a head coach somewhere after next season. Who knows? I'll let time tell the story and hope for the best.

Then you consider that Marrone has taken Hackett with him to three different teams and it's a really logical conclusion to think that Marrone has a comfort level with him and his coaching ability.

You'll just have to hope that since Hackett ran Olson's offense and Wash ran Bradley's defense you're going to see something very different come August.
