Do you want Bortles to succeed?

Quote:I honestly don't think anybody really wishes/wished for Bortles to suck. We all wanted him to be the guy. Some of us have seen enough and don't think he has earned another chance to start for us. We believe that in order for this team succeed, we must get a new quarterback. Fair enough.. everyone is entitled to an opinion of course. I believe I've seen enough to think that he's capable of better and leading this team to more wins and success. ![]() 80% of what I talk about is nonesense.. the other 25% is made up statistics... Very simply, they'd rather be able to yell, "I TOLD YOU SO!" than see the team succeed. There are several people like that. Every incompletion they feel validated. As far as the latter, a lot of Giant fans felt the same way after Eli's first 3 years. He put up some interesting numbers in comparison to BB's 3rd year as well.
If Blake wants to be the guy. Tom will bring in someone to challenge him. So he will have to earn it.
To believe Tom will let another year of qb issues with no back up plan. Is someone misinformed about Coughlin.

It literally looks as if he puts his body through pain every time he throws the ball. It's an ugly and inaccurate mess. For me, this is the main reason why I say that I've seen enough from him.

It literally looks as if he puts his body through pain every time he throws the ball. It's an ugly and inaccurate mess. For me, this is the main reason why I say that I've seen enough from him. Eli-and there are others- looked completely lost and clueless at times, and made throws that were completely inexplicable. The "eye test" would have resulted in a blindfold. It was ugly at times. You may not recall Giant fans commenting about how lost he looked and utterly confused his first few seasons, but I'm sure they do. What I believe you see in Blake is a lack of confidence in what he is doing, as so much has gone wrong, and frankly he was rattled. There are times his mechanics are completely fine, he is accurate, and he is in rhythm. He started and finished the year not so bad in that respect. Then things rolled downhill for a long while, obviously. There were a lot of factors there--and many, if not all, he acknowledged and tried to correct on his own, despite coaching DISCOURAGING HIM from doing so. That's stunning. I just watched the Raven game, which was a typical game for us this year. Starting at the 9 after we fumble the opening kickoff....3rd and long after 3rd and long. Deflections leading to picks. Running backs not picking up 3rd and 1 time after time. It seemed we were in 3 and 7 or more the majority of the year. I ran those numbers before in a different post. Not a ton of QB's are going to have consistent success with the pathetic situations we put ourselves in this year. Blake has accountability there, to be sure, but NO ONE picked him up. Drops, key penalties, lack of hustle, terrible and inconsistent coaching, all of it played into the nightmare. Our whole team, offensively, was in a funk where they didn't believe they could get it done. Rewatch the team on the next to the last throw, for example, in the Raven game, which was picked off after a deflection. Every receiver except Lee gave up on their route as Blake was scrambling (futilely as it turned out) to make something happen. Just an example there. 11 guys contributed to that. People act like he's throwing Jamarcus Russell, Sanchez, Gabbert production out there. I think the last time a team (and obviously some fans) just gave up on a guy with the level of production Bortles has had was probably Brees, for whatever that is worth. Interesting 3rd year, 11 TD's. 15 INT's. Year they bailed on him? Interesting. 24 TD's 15 INT's. Hmmm. If we would have given up on say.....Mark Brunell after his 3rd year playing in the league--19 TD's, 20 INT's, I'm sure we would have regretted it as well. Quote: It seemed we were in 3 and 7 or more the majority of the year. I ran those numbers before in a different post.I ran a lot of these numbers too. Here's what I found, comparing him to some of the other young franchise hopeful QBs around the league. 3rd and 7-9 from PFR: Blake Bortles - 16-37 (43%), 233 yards, 6.3 YPA, 39.6 QB rating Derek Carr - 19-38 (50%), 270 yards, 7.1 YPA, 90.9 QB rating Jameis Winston - 12-21 (57%), 173 yards, 8.2 YPA, 99.9 QB rating Marcus Mariota - 15-28 (53%), 182 yards, 6.5 YPA, 85.7 QB rating Carson Wentz - 27-43 (62%), 326 yards, 7.6 YPA, 74.4 QB rating Blake was roughly on par, or at worst 1 extra per game, in number of 3rd and longs...he just sucked horribly in them. Even Wentz who also struggles with many of the same mechanical issues that Blake does was far better on 3rd and long, as a rookie. And if you want to try to claim that back in 2015 when "his mechanics are completely fine, he is accurate, and in rhythm" here they are: 15-37 (40%), 234 yards, 6.3 YPA, and 69 QB rating. Still very sub par. Hence one reason why so many people have correctly pointed out that Blake was still bad in 2015. He was simply afforded the opportunity to compile stats very inefficiently.
Washington Post makes it even easier by doing the total number of 3rd and 8+. For some reason they only do 20 players at a time so you get more info sorting AFC and NFC.
http://stats.washingtonpost.com/fb/leade...sing&year= QBs that attempted more passes than Blake's 64 in 3rd and 8+ situations: Flacco Dalton Siemian Brees Stafford Winston Wilson Palmer Newton Wentz Stafford Manning Rodgers, Cousins, Prescott, and Rivers also were over 60. The problem isn't that the Jags were in 3rd and long "A majority of the year", cause they clearly weren't any worse than most teams. The problem is that Blake was only able to convert 10 (!!!) of them. Predictably that was the lowest percentage in the league.
Can anybody name a QB who had awful mechanics and threw the ball as bad as Bortles in year 3 but became a good QB in the end?
Can't think of any. Philip Rivers doesn't count , he has a weird delivery but has always thrown the ball great and pretty accurate. We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote:Can anybody name a QB who had awful mechanics and threw the ball as bad as Bortles in year 3 but became a good QB in the end?Now I am in no way a Bortles proponent, but Bortles was within throwing distance of Brett Favre's 3rd season. The difference, Brett did not regress into the upper 50 pass percentage until his 5th and 6th year. And according to this interview with Aaron Rodgers, Brett had success in spite of his fundamentles. http://thebiglead.com/2015/06/10/aaron-r...mechanics/ 3rd year fumbles - Brett = 7 Bortles = 8 3rd year interceptions - Brett = 24 Bortles = 16 3rd year yards per game - Brett = 206.4 Bortles = 244.1 Quote:Now I am in no way a Bortles proponent, but Bortles was within throwing distance of Brett Favre's 3rd season. Favre always had a howitzer of an arm, probably the strongest in the NFL, to make up for all of his shortcomings elsewhere. Bortles had below average arm strength this year and consistently threw ducks so I'm not sure that comparison I'd fair Quote:Favre always had a howitzer of an arm, probably the strongest in the NFL, to make up for all of his shortcomings elsewhere. You asked for someone with bad fundamentals and was a good QB. Favre is one. He was a gun slinger so interceptions were high all throughout his career. Lots of them at the worst time in games. And as they said in the article - he shortened the life of some of his coaches with his death defying style. Quote:You asked for someone with bad fundamentals and was a good QB. Favre is one. He was a gun slinger so interceptions were high all throughout his career. Lots of them at the worst time in games. Nah, I asked for a QB with bad fundamentals who threw it as badly as Blake did this year. Favre may have bad fundamentals but he made up for it with insane arm strength/velocity. Bortles doesn't have that at all. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Hmm
Year Team G Att Comp Pct Att/G Yds Avg Yds/G TD TD% Int Int% Lng 20+ 40+ Sck SckY Rate 1993 Green Bay Packers 16 522 318 60.9 32.6 3,303 6.3 206.4 19 3.6 24 4.6 66T 37 5 30 199 72.2 2016 Jacksonville Jaguars 16 625 368 58.9 39.1 3,905 6.2 244.1 23 3.7 16 2.6 51T 43 4 34 197 78.8 Looks pretty comparable even throwing ducks, which both threw at times hence Brett's 24 Ints. Looks like perhaps the difference is a better run game and Favre did not have to throw quite as much. Quote:Hmm Problem here is you are looking at stats. I'm talking about how they play. Favre had a rocket arm which made up his fundamentals. Which leads back to the question, name a QB who had mechanics as bad as Bortles had this year and three the ball as badly but ended up being a good NFL QB.
I can't think of a quarterback with fundamentals as bad as Bortles. It's literally the worst I've ever seen.
