I just honestly don't see STL trading down.

 

They haven't been relevant in a while, and are pretty close all things considered.

They were #2 in 2012 and traded down twice. So what does having the #2 pick have to do with their desire to trade down?

I could see them going Matthews early. They've had such instability at that position. Jake Long just blew out his knee and can't seem to stay healthy. Saffold is a free agent and holdover from the previous regime. 

 

Jake Long's ACL has nothing to do with their chances of picking a left tackle at #2. Sam Bradford tore his ACL, but they are not looking for a quarterback. That said, if the Rams need to improve their offensive line, I can see them picking Matthews.

I think the Texans go QB. They are hurting at that position and the Schaub era is for sure over! The only way they don't go QB is if they get one in FA. St. Louis is a wild card. They have a lot to fix just as the Jaguars do. They could go OL so Matthews looks like the smart choice. But they could easily trade down the # 2 pick to the Browns, Falcons or even Da Raiders. So they are a true Wild Card at # 2. The Jags need to go QB/DL/LB. QB would be my absolute 1st need in my opinion. So Teddy would be my choice if he is there! This should be an interesting off season and FA. I hope the Jags give MJD a new contract. He is a leader we need!

I wouldn't rule out the Rams taking Clowney at 2 and the best available LT at 13.  Yeah, I realize they have Quinn and Long, but you can never have enough pass rushers.

True but they committed pretty big to Bradford in the offseason, they now need to help him succeed and #1 is strengthening the Oline.


The BAP (yes I honestly think Matthews is just as good as Clowney) pick AND the need pick suggest to us that Rams take Matthews.

Why would they want to miss out on an elite offensive tackle knowing he will be gone before they pick again? The Falcons certainly will snatch up Matthews if the Rams don't.

Did you ever think maybe the Redskins needed to give up too much to talk the Rams into trading down? I don't know if that is true, but normally two picks are enough to trade up only four spots.

They just look at everything objectively to see what the quarterback does, how he does it, etc. to identify what he is good and bad at. Statistics mean nothing to them.

1. They got great value from the trade down

2. A rookie they were eyeing would most likely be there in their trade slot

Learned what lesson from trading up? With Julio = NFC #1 seed. Without Julio = #6 overall pick. It is obvious they made the right decision to trade up for him.

 

It is not Julio Jones that is the problem with the trade up.  He is a great player, no doubt about it. 

 

The fact that they gave up 5 picks in the top 120 picks in the that draft, and the next one is where the problem is. 

 

That is all I meant by "lesson learned."
