40oz Steak Challenge

#21

I used to love watching Man vs Food. Some of those challenges were absolutely ridiculous. Adam (somebody) did pretty well with a lot of them though. If I were to guess straight from memory, he probably won about 60% of the time. Not quite 2 out of 3, but more than 1 out of 2. At least that's how my memory serves me.

Back in the day, I could have probably have done those too. Ever since being on chemo, no food tastes right, so eating is something I do because I'm supposed to do it to nourish my body and stay alive. I wouldn't dream of any eating contest.

I remember the one where he had to eat like 12 chicken wings dipped in that ghost pepper seasoning. He got like 4 wings into the challenge and his face and lips started to swell up. He started to drool and had tears runnin down his eyes. Pretty funny..

There's a great steakhouse in NYC that I visited about once a year for a special occasion steak dinner.  They did an amazing 24oz - bone-in rib-eye.

I'd have a salad first, the steak, sides of creamed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes, then split a chocolate cake slice for dessert.

If that had been a 40 oz steak I'd have to hurl immediately following dessert.

Quote:Work took us to Prime Quarter in Wisconsin last night so I did the "Beefeater Challenge"

In One hour and Fifteen minutes you must eat:

40oz sirloin

One trip to salad bar

A baked potato

One piece of Texas Toast

I had the steak finished in 16 minutes and proceeded to drink a beer and eat a piece of Reese's pieces after. That was around 7pm. As of typing this (on a bus to OHare at 5am), I still feel full and occasionally nauseous lol

I don't think I'll ever do this challenge again. I'm surprised how easily I finished it, but I am feeling pretty gross now.

So...once you finshed off that appetizer did they bring out a main course?

Quote:This reminded me of that John Candy movie where he tried to eat a 72oz steak. If anyone is a food challenge freak Col Mustards does some pretty crazy burger stuff while having imo the best burgers in town.

I did one of these challenges at a resort in Orlando.

The thing about heat challenges are that if you're going to bother taking a single bite, then you better be ready to commit to the entire thing.

You will be miserable regardless.

I had tears and mucus flowing... but didn't care.  I couldn't dare wipe my face to prevent wiping that unholy sauce near my eyes accidentally.

One friendly reminder if you are considering doing this yourself - yes, it is just as hot coming out as it is going in.

The chlorine of the swimming pool that afternoon also gave me a stinging reminder to my face of what it had been through.

If it's something you want to do - do it and go as fast as you possibly can to end it as quickly as possible.  If you quit or come up short you will still be just about as miserable.

This is exactly why Americans are considered "fat" by many from other countries.  There is absolutely no reason for any one person to consume that much food in one sitting.

I personally hate eating out at restaurants because of this.  I don't need a plate piled on with food to think that I got my "money's worth".  I would rather get sensible portions of food cooked and presented appealing.

For me personally (I'm not a big guy) I'm fine with a 6oz or 8oz steak, a baked potato, a salad and a desert for a meal that will make me full.  To think about eating more-or-less the equivalent of 5 8oz steaks for something like this is kind of sickening.

You're absolutely right. There's really no reason to ever even offer this much food. I tried it bc, well, I could. That being said, it definitely says something about the culture of America

That was at Munchies 420 in Clearwater. They intentionally made the wings way hotter than they normally are.

Always that one downer in the group....

I did the pound and a half burger challenge and Col Mustards and I basically told myself keep eating before that trigger turns off in my head.  I completed it in less than five minutes.

I think the challenge goes up to 3 pounds.  I couldn't imagine going above a pound and a half.

Buddy of mine severely underestimated how big that 3 Patty burger was when he tried it. He finished it around the 12 minute mark but half way through we all heard the OH [BLEEP] sigh come out of his mouth and his cockiness left the room.

The steak challenge probably added up to about 3 pounds. 2.5 for the steak alone, then add the potato, toast, and salad.

3 pounds is definitely across the the breaking point for me --- especially if we put it into the same context as eating 12 Quarter Pounders.

Conversely, if the 3 pound burger was done with a thin bun and only ketchup, I think I could consume that (since it would primarily be the meat).  The (thick) bun and condiments are a killer when you factor those in.

Yep -- that one I could never do.

I love hot wings and I can consume a lot of food but you take wings to the habanero level or that ghost pepper they do, I'm done.

Well, I do spend a lot of time looking at boring stuff.

Eating more than necessary is not logical.
