Jabrill Peppers 2nd round?

#1

I have seen a lot of mock drafts having Peppers listed as late 1st or early 2nd rounder. Scouts question his ball production as he only had 1 INT in his college career.

I believe this was due to playing multiple positions and never fully settling in at one. Often times, he was the best athlete on the field. Making this an even more difficult scenario is the fact that Peppers is attending the combine. When he shows he actually has good hands, he may sky rocket up draft boards.

Nevertheless, if he slips into the 2nd round, Jags should pounce on him. He would add more playmaking ability that we have been lacking at the SS position (sorry Cyp) for quite some time.

Thoughts on this possibility........

Nah. If you are playing him as a safety there will be way better options than him even going into the 3rd and 4th round.

If you're playing him as a linebacker...once again there are better options than him going into the 3rd and 4th rounds.

Anytime a player is projected as "late first or early second" in mock drafts, assume he will not be available at #35.

Why do you think there are better options? In your opinion, what does he lack compared to other safeties in this draft?

We have a very long thread about two safeties who apparently are locks for the first round. Most people want Jamal Adams, but a popular reason for that is Malik Hooker started only one season.

Because Peppers isn't really a safety or a linebacker. He isn't good in coverage , doesn't have the size or strength to get off blocks so he's left in a kind of purgatory. I think if you play him as an SS in the NFL he would look like Cyprien his first few years in the league.

He's a good athlete and a really good kick returner but if you want a SS or a linebacker there are way better options than Peppers.

I am talking about 2nd rounders. OBVIOUSLY Adams and Hooker will go in the first.

He cant cover and is too small to be a linebacker

Even if he turns out to be deone buccanon like everyone loves to compare him(and every other small linebacker) to I wouldnt take deone until the 3rd round. And jabrill isnt even as good in coverage as deone was coming out so all in all jabrill is just a bad prospect to me.

There is a narrative that he cant cover?

We are talking about someone who might be picked in the first round.

Or not.  Just like Myles Jack last year.
