Worst case scenario, Romo starts, gets injured, Bortles starts instead but plays like last year and we suck again. Can trade Romo for a pick afterwards and get searching for a new QB

The problem with your scenario is no one would trade for a 38 year old Room, proof being no one is trading for a 37 year old Romo which is why he's getting cut.

Yeah. Not anything more than a 5th though. We could always cut him afterwards either.


He isn't being traded because of his contract and so that he can meet with teams. Not because there are no teams who want to trade for him.


We lose nothing by signing him but stand to gain a lot. 99.5% certain it won't happen though.

Normally the advantage to trading is you can secure a guy so he doesnt get the opportunity to pick and choose where he wants to go. But Jerry is gonna let Romo pick where he wants to get traded to anyway so might as well let him be cut and not inherit that giant contract.

He most likely doesnt but hes not going to take pennies either. Hell get a fair deal for a very good but oft injured 37 year old QB. Probably loaded with health based incentives.
