But I would say this.   Since Peppers weighs 205, they have to evaluate him as a safety.   He certainly can't play linebacker at that weight.   So all the other "Swiss Army Knife" stuff goes out the window.   He has to be worth the pick as a safety.  

 

I just don't want another Denard Robinson, who came in without a true position, took a while to find a position, and never really panned out.

The problem is all of those guys played at a very high level and has the size and athleticism to play a number of spots.


Urlacher for instance played a linebacker/safety type role in college. He was also 6'4 230 so moving to linebacker full time in the NFL isn't that hard.


Peppers is around 6 foot (if even) and 205. He can't play MLB, he can't play SLB. His best chance is a weakside safety/LB hybrid and it just so happens that there are a good few far better safeties than him in this draft so it drives down his value.

Maybe move him to RB?  Either way, you're looking at training the guy up and he has a low floor.  Considering the depth at safety and DB this year, I don't think he gets taken in the first two rounds.

Peppers could indeed fall because he doesn't have a true position.  On the other hand, I wouldn't draft a player who doesn't have a true position. 

 

It is better to be great at one thing than good at everything. That said, if Jabrill Peppers is the next Tyrann Mathieu (linebacker/safety hybrid), the his versatility should be an advantage. Of course, nobody said he will be that good at LB.

4. Fournette is younger (Ivory turns 29 next month), bigger (6'1, 235 v. 6' 222), not a fumbler, faster, and a better overall prospect than Ivory (Nfl.com compared him to Bo Jackson).


It wouldn't make zero sense.


Might there be better picks for the Jaguars? Yeah.


But don't say it makes zero sense when the Jaguars best rusher last year only had 465 yards.
