Pre combine site wide Mock Draft
|
Interesting, defensive top heavy draft so far.
While I like the player they picked, I'm not sure I like the fit in SF. They have drafted DT types the last 2-3 years with Arik Armstead and DeForest Buckner last year, I am not sure where Allen fits there. I think if I were them, I might have gone QB. I think some are being too hard on Williams, who is a better WR prospect than Treadwell last year. I like the Hooker pick for the tacks, but they could easily go Lattimore or Williams there and still do well. I think the fall of DeShone Kizer in this draft is a reflection that the "experts" like him more than the fans. I know I am not overly fond of him. That said, with his size and arm strength, and as desperate as teams are for QB, it wouldn't surprise me if he is taken by this point in the actual draft. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if he is on the board if Arizona took him. They just signed Leftwich as the new QB coach. Leftwich like Kizer, is big and was strong armed. Everywhere Arians has been in the last 10-15 years, he's coached a big strong armed QB. In Pittsburgh he coached big Ben. In Indy, he coached Andrew Luck. In Arizona, he coached Carson Palmer and just drafted Logan Thomas. To me, Kizer seems a great fit. Leftwich and Carson Palmer and Arians can help coach and groom him, and he could be the full time starter in the desert by 2018 Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

There is nothing close to a consensus on CBs after Lattimore. Once you think you've figured it out, someone else says you're all wrong.
At any rate, the Colts are up.

They have several DT types like Armstead and Bruckner, but very little in the line of edge pass rushers. They needed a pass rushing DE. They needed a pass rushing DE.They brought in Saleh from us. I wonder if they will utilize the same scheme. If so, you could make the argument either Allen or the other two guys could be that LDE for them. But even with that, I'm not sure if they have the NT type to fit in there. I'm also not sure if Allen fits the mold of the LEO, though I think he could be more of a pass rushing threat from LDE than either Odrick or Alualu, that's for sure. I would be more sold on the pick if I knew that they would have QB addressed before then. But I can't see a guy like Shanahan not wanting his guy there, and if he doesn't have a vet there he trusts to be the starter, I think he'd have to go QB at 2. As for Indy, under this scenario, they have their choice of RBs, and it is certainly a need for them. But I'm not sold that edge rusher isn't a bigger need for them. To me, there is a compelling case for Williams out of Alabama to be the pick. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
