I don't know he's been pretty upfront with all the questions he's being asked. Really still pushing Bortles hard. Doesn't surprise me in the least if he thinks LF or DC will take the offense to a different level and create less hassle for Bortles.

Caldwell just said Cyp and Prince will hit the market and get a feel for their price tags. But didn't rule out bringing them back

I am a fan of Dave's transparency, but this is the one time of year that I don't put much stock into what he's saying about personnel moves.

I don't think he wants to show any cards right now.

I'd like to see how Tom's answers agree or disagree.

Do you actually believe they went through this lengthy, ultra-detailed, "no-stone-unturned" evaluation together and those two have a different answer?

I guess Tom would not need to have veto power were that the case.

That also doesn't assume #1 need will align with #1 pick.  It may, it may not.

I suppose what's important here is not read too much into these types of comments.

Oh, it's the offseason. Not only will we read into it but I have hired a scouting firm to scout better scouting firms to read into these comments for me.

I wouldn't read anything into comments about personnel needs this close to the draft.  There's nothing to gain by divulging it and draft strategy to jeopardize.

I just find it odd that Marrone, Coughlin and Caldwell have all painted a very positive picture about the work they've put into evaluating this roster together, but you think they somehow weren't able to walk away from that on the same page?

These are three professionals with a common goal. They are perfectly capable of coming to a consensus agreement on the team's top needs.  It's not some mysterious riddle floating out there in the ether.  They created a value system for every player on the roster and then computed the results.

Maybe I'm not disagreeing as much as you seem to be suggesting.  (You appear curiously eager to suggest that, IMO.)

As I mentioned in a different post, it does seem as if we're getting "one voice" views from the new FO team (where at times we'd get "you'll have to ask x.")

Robinson had a few gaffs, but they can literally be counted on one hand.

What changed for Robinson in 2016 was the number of uncatchable balls thrown his way, the number of downfield passes and red-zone attempts.

It was high in 2015:  80 receptions on 151 targets with 5 drops. That's 66 targets that couldn't get home due to inaccuracy or proper defense.

In 2016 Robinson had 73 receptions on 151 targets (eerily the same number) and this time only 3 drops. That's 75 uncatchable balls due to accuracy or proper defense.

Robinson also pissed off the refs... he got like no calls for obvious, blatant, awful PIs, like most of the season

Not eager to suggest anything. I'm not attacking you or your opinion.

I am simply curious as to why you believe Coughlin would have a different answer than Caldwell to the teams' greatest need after they just went over the whole roster together?  I'm not trying to set you up by asking.

I mean, if they did have different answers at this point, that whole process of evaluation would be a total fail.

I realize that you also  leave open the possibility of them agreeing on the answer  -- I just think that at this point they must definitely agree on the answer or we're in for some trouble and/or shake-ups in the F.O.

Maybe it is because he views QB as the biggest need?

That's true, and undoubtedly factored into the frustration he displayed.

If TC disagrees with DC too much this offseason... DC might not make it through the 2017-2018 season....

but I'm not sure how much disagreeing would be made public until after the fact....

Maybe DC was noncommittal on biggest need to keep all his FA/draft cards close to the vest...

My first thought is its relatively uncomfortable when people have the same exact beliefs. If Caldwell thinks oline is the biggest problem, and Tom thinks it's QB, I'm fine with that, because there's a clear chain of command that's been established. It doesn't matter if they disagree, as long as the final decision ends up working.

I'd almost bet money that Caldwell and Coughlin have some kind of differing opinions on the various strengths and weaknesses on the roster. It's a complicated setup, but ultimately it falls on Tom, and I think that's a better thing than having it fall on Caldwell.

Undoubtedly...

if Tom has to pull out the ol' veto too much... DC is expendable

The team's biggest need right now is improved quarterback play, and I don't think it's even close. Whether that means finding a new guy, we don't necessarily know yet. I think so, but who cares what I think?
