No, that's an example of the lazy analysis I was talking about where no effort or detail is given in projecting him at either three positions. Yes, there are positives and negatives for them all if one were to bother looking deeper.

Jonathan Allen posted strong tweener numbers, far better measured out against interior than outside. #RAS

Jonathan Allen? He's a tweener for me. I currently have him as an EDGE, but I get the argument for moving him inside

I knew it had to be the rhetoric on there. I just hadn't seen it myself. Not surprised he parrots that.

Allen should play DT in a 4-3 or De in a 3-4 if we are just talking traditional base set up.

I don't think he's a tweener at all. I think he's gifted enough that he could do other things well, which is why teams will move him all over the line.

If he didn't have the shoulder arthritis, he would be my 3rd ranked player behind adams and Garrett.

100% agree that it's laziness. Analysts look at where he played in college, which was different spots on the line, so they lazily say he's a tweener.

These guys just need something to say these days. The draft was a lot smarter and reasonable before the media made it into a money grabbing circus.

Quote:"edge" is a location on the field/formation, which by extension defines a role which changes depending on strong or weak side

"edge is NOT a position any player actually plays. A lot of analysts misuse it in this way.

OLBs and DEs are the positions, which depend on whether 3-4 or 4-3. One will not find "edge" on any depth chart.
Edge as its being used by these analysts are 3-4olbs and 4-3 ends. None of what youre saying here matters.

No one is saying edge is an actual position, its an umbrella term to designate two actual positions at 3-4olbs and 4-3 end. Its not that serious nor is it difficult to understand.

Either way, Thomas is not a tweener. He is an edge player who can also play inside, period.

Then again, if we do stick with the "Seattle" scheme, and if Poz proves out ok on the edge pass rushing, the strongside DE spot is really more of a 3-4 LDE wherein I keep thinking Jonathan Allen might be a perfect fit.

Maybe but I wouldn't touch him in round 1 with that arthritis.

Would love a repeat of last draft when we consider Allen for the top pick, pass as Thomas slides to us, then we get to 2nd round and Allen is still there and we trade up.

The thought crossed my mind but the odds of that happening are so miniscule I didn't want to waste too much time on it.

Would be fantastic though.

Adams/Fournette in the first and Allen in the second? Lunacy.

Thomas definitely back in the picture if Campbell goes to Denver.

I wanted him with Campbell too so if we don't get Campbell it would be criminal not drafting him if he is there at 4. Which unfortunately I don't think he will be.

Thomas should firmly stay in the picture at 4 either way.
