Not bad for an undrafted guy.

Not at all.

 

But I have mixed feelings about him.

 

On the one hand, part of me thinks that due to his pedigree, he would be less inclined to mail it in now that he will have a big contract.  Plus, he already knows the receivers in the division.

 

On the other, he has only done it for one year, and here he won't likely have the kind of pass rush in front of him he enjoyed at Houston.

Why? It's FA, you overpay. It's not coming out of your pocket and the cap goes up every year. It's the nature of the game, and frankly, won't hurt this team at all.

That was another reason I was bullish on Marrone.  For him to do what he did in Buffalo with those QBs says a lot.

 

 Another potential positive for the Jaguars with Doug Marrone as HC is I doubt he's going to be ultra patient with Blake Bortles like Gus Bradley was.  Much greater urgency should be a theme with the Jaguars than was the case in many seasons.

 The expectation by many that cover the NFL is the 2017 FA Guard market is going to produce more lucrative contracts than the 2017 FA RT market.   That probably is in large part because the Guard crop appears to be better but it's still something I didn't envision happening this decade.
