Happy we are in on Church. Him and Swearenger are the two safeties I'd want.

Quote:Put on the tape and you see plenty of poor angles on ballcarriers and a few blatantly awful missed tackles.
If your standard is no bad angles and no blatantly awful missed tackles you're going to be waiting a while, because every player in football history has both on their resume.

We agree that Cyp isn't actually the 7th best safety in football, but it's not PFFs fault that they graded him like that. It's the Jags fault (or really Cyp's lack of versatility's fault) that he was used how he was. PFF can only grade what he did and when Cyp is used in the most vanilla way that the position can be played, especially while more and more of the NFL is using their SS very exotically, then he will grade out pretty well.

So play him in positions where he cant/wont exceed instead of playing to his strengths? Okay...

Forgot Im talking to one of the biggest PFF fans out there.

Carry on.

He played fantastically last year. Was elite in coverage. I'm partial to safeties who cover well.

Swearinger was awesome last year and is only 25. He would be a better pickup than Church. Not that Church isn't ok...just kinda blah too.

Church is a solid guy. Gibson is solid too. A lot of money to be paying for guys like that but what can ya do.

I fail to see how Barry Church is a good player

Jesus you all are awful at this whole honest conversation thing. Nothing I said in there was a defense of anything, PFF or Cyp or the Jags.

Draft better players with top 40 picks.

Despite your needless insults, PFF's grade on Cyp does make sense considering how they tried to mitigate his coverage woes last season.

Still - the 4 or 5 TEs that opposing OCs forced him to cover a few times had little to no trouble getting open at will. Dwayne Allen made a fool of him IMO.

He's frankly lucky that more teams didn't try to force that mismatch. He'd have graded much lower and his contract year tape would have a different feel to those in the market for a safety.

I don't think the guys there are good value. Prefer to get Josh Jones in the 3/4 or Xavier Woods in 4/5

You need to read your post again if you dont think you didnt go on a big defending rant for PFF above.

You have have family ties to PFF or something. Never seen someone be such a homer for a website and take their word as gospel as much as you.

Reply with another attack on me followed by a statement saying how PFF is god though. Can't wait.

Hes a decent SS. Not going to get several good players via FA. Look no farther tham the past 4 yrs with FA signings. Try and land 2-3 above average to good players and fill holes/get depth pieces. Church is likely a stopgap.

Yeah, I said that about Telvin too. He had his best year for coverage, but we also faced an exceedingly weak schedule of TEs to test him this year. I'm not quite closing the door on the worries about him in coverage.

Also, not quite sure defending myself against people blatantly twisting my words for no reason equates to me being the one needlessly insulting...

thats not a defense of PFF its just explaining to you how it works. PFF grades in a certain way for every player, and the way the Jags played him essentially takes advantage of that system inadvertently. Its the same as a left tackle being graded highly even though hes bad because his QB gets the ball out quickly. Its not a pro-PFF statement, its just how it works objectively.

Feel free to find some evidence that would suggest anything you just said. Don't hold your breath while doing it though because you will die.

The absolute farthest I have gone to defend PFF is saying that they aren't gospel, but they do have two people who independently watch and grade every snap for every player so their opinion does carry some credence. Also that a ton of teams (including ours) referencing their scoring for players probably lends them some credence too.

That's it. And I have ripped them plenty too.
