Jaguars expected to sign Calais Campbell

Quote:OK ... back on topic ---- CALAIS CAMPBELL !!!

Lovin the swag with all off these (state of) Florida guys on this team.  I know he didn't grow up here (but went to The U) .... but he still has the FL swag to go along with our UF and FSU players.

Fitzpatrick's look there says it all. "Please don't hurt me!"

Also for those of you wondering how good Calais is, he was rated #1 on PFF's Top 50 Free Agent list.

Base:

Campbell  -  Jones/Miller  -   Jackson  -   Ngakoue/Fowler

Nickel:

Fowler -  Campbell/Marks/Day    -  Jackson/Marks/Day   -  Ngakoue

I have no idea if they'll successfully deal Marks or not --  and I can't guess how many DTs they will keep right now --  but it's shaping up nice for rotation in the middle on nickel downs. Fresh legs on big guys getting after the passer is a good, good thing.

Quote:Fournette, 4.5 speed, thats slow in the nfl, hes not a homerun threat. And he was injury prone against college players, he'll wind up disabled against nfl players.
Brandon Jacobs ran a 4.56 and led the NFL in runs over 20 yards for 2-3 years.

You could say the same about Adrian Peterson and his injuries in college, that worked out fine.

My first thought as well. Definitely a different tone to this thread than one started about Campbell 8-9 years ago...  :teehee:  :woot:

Regardless, I like the signing. Hopefully this signing is the impact dlineman the team's been hoping to hit on these past few offseasons.

Gonna be huge on passing downs. Pass rush from the interior and off the edge, (as long as Fowler improves or is moved to SLB and replaced.) Having Jackson and Campbell collapsing the pocket from the inside should be fun to watch.

If they cant trade Marks, I think hes just going to be flat out cut. I personally think he has some good years left in him, but alas he has some injury problems with his knees which is never good for a big man and also, is a Gus Bradley hold over. Might be best to just go separate ways.

I will miss Marks, always was a big fan of his.

It's possible. It would kind-of suck. But it's possible.

For a team without the numbers game at DT Marks is a really nice rotational piece to the puzzle.

If Coughlin and Dave put him up for trade, its over. I think that sends a wrong message if you cant trade him and bring him back. Could lead to grumblings in the locker rom from a disgruntled employee. I think the message was sent loud and clear and Marks doesnt have a future going forward with this team.

Im not sure what hes due this season but knowing Dave Caldwell and how excellent he and his staff have been at negotiating deals, I dont think if we cut him it would hurt us in any way cap wise. If they cant trade Marks, I think they will release him.

Personally, I would of loved to of had him stay, I think when healthy, hes a good player and has many years left. I think Mark's bad knees is a big factor, hes a big man and never a good sign when you have multiple knee issues, they typically reoccur. I think also hes the face of the Gus Bradley era per say and Coughlin really just wants to clean house.

They reportedly already did.  Just a rumor - but, who knows?

He's due very little in 2017. 4 million.  If he's cut - it's not about money - it's about roster numbers on the D-Line.

I don't really associate him with Gus at all. He complained about Gus openly.
