Tony Romo to Jacksonville?

Quote:I think we would draft a QB at 4 rather than sign injury prone Romo.

When it comes to QB I think we have 2 options.

1. Put all trust in Blake as the starter and draft Allen/Thomas/Fournette

2. Blake isn't our future and we take a QB at 4 to sit behind for a year/take over this year and let Blake go in free agency.

I don't know what they will do. Caldwell has put his job on the line with sticking to Bortles. They will ride or die together. Ive read that Tom doesn't really like Blake as a QB/ isn't his type of QB. They could surprise and go QB at 4. I think it would be better than signing Romo who would play a quarter of the season only to have Blake come back. If they all trust Bortles RB/DL would be the pick. I think the front office will surprise everyone with their selection in the draft.

No way they take one of these QBs at 4. I was very high on Watson after the Championship, but I've cooled on him.
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

Watson would be the only QB I would consider at 4 if they know Bortles isnt there guy and let him walk next year. Watson seems like a player that could go to a team that already has a good roster in place and lead them to the playoffs. Im not a good scout but if he was the real deal I would take him. The worst thing that can happen is we have built a great defense and Bortles doesn't work out. We end up like the Texans or worse. I would prefer to get Fournette or DL and get a QB in round 2 or 3 but wouldn't mind if Watson was the pick. If Coughlin likes him I'm all in.

Great post, and I fully agree. I wouldn't be surprised either way, but I'm pretty sure Dave's opinion of Bortles won't matter on draft day if Coughlin loves one of the QBs.

It's going to be one of the more intriguing drafts in terms of potential guys we could pick. I'm torn myself, so I can see Dave and Tom having slight disagreements, or even large ones regarding the 4th overall pick once the Jags are on the clock.

If they pick a QB, Caldwell would have to feel pretty embarrassed and small in the organization. We all know he loves Blake, but I tend to think Coughlin disagrees.

2) ?

3) Profit
First we get the Khakis. Then we get the jobs. Then we get the girls.

Also, has any QB (Bortles) ever started, then sat, then took over to be the guy?

Terry Bradshaw.

Romo wouldn't last long behind our OL.

At this point just bring him in, but only if he wants to come here

I really don't think any of the free agent QB's including tradebait Romo are good options.  The best bet is find a RB in the 1st round, (trade down or stay) get the best of the bunch and then draft a QB in the second round to compete.  If Bortles comes back to 2015 form then no harm no foul.  If Bortles continues to struggle the team needs an insurance policy.

I'd rather take a QB @4 then acquire Romo.

So would I, and taking a QB at #4 would be the absolute worst pick they could make.

Yep. We'd be all over Sports Center. Look at these losers...grasping at straws...signing a broken down 37 year old quarterback. Talk about laughing stock...

He's the number 1 guy available. Bortles already has us laughing.

He's the Javel McGee of the NFL from Shaqtin a fool.

Quote:It's his risk of injury that has teams not wanting to trade for him. The thing is, with Bortles still around that risk is minimized.

I'm thinking we should ink Romo to a one-year deal while working out a reasonable extension for Blake. The plan would be for Bortles to be the starter once again in 2018, or this year should Romo get hurt. This gives Bortles a clear developmental goal. He's been given a great taste at what it means to start in the NFL. Now let him work at his craft for a full year developing behind Tony Romo, and then we just might have a QB capable of taking the Jaguars all the way to the big dance.

Look, two years ago we had a glimpse of Blake's potential, but last year he was exposed a bit. Yes I do think passing too much and a subsequent fatigued and injured arm played a role, but it was just as clear that Blake has some mechanical issues to work through. Should he start this year it's possible his stint with his old trainers might do the trick, but that's also a bit of a gamble. Give Blake a year to polish his game before having to "be the guy" once again, and I just know he'll take the league by storm.

Once again, this is just so darn stupid. He's in the last year of his rookie contract. So you're going too put him on the bench for the year? How the hell do you know whether to extend him or not if he's on the darn bench? This 'idea' is just ridiculous.

If Romo was brought in here, I'd seriously question Coughlin's senses.

Steve Young comes to mind.

Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster

Quote:That stat, 25th in points allowed, includes pick-6s, punt returns, 10 yard drives, everything, including loads of stuff the defense was in no way responsible for.

The best stat for judging a defense is total yards and yards per play.   Because they are purely responsible for that.
I disagree, the best stat IMO is TD's given up. Ranking our D by TD's given up, we are 17th. Which feels about right to me. Even tho you complain about pick sixes, and turnovers giving our D the short end of the stick, time of possession is nearly 50%, and we have like 300 more yards than our opponents. Our offense definitely lost games, but we didn't have an elite D either. Also Blake thru 3 pick 6's, ST gave up 1 TD, those are hardly mind blowing numbers.
