Thoughts are lack of addressing the OL, and too late to fill strong end and CB holes makes it a thumbs down for me.  Sorry.  I am assuming you had some free agent signings that had already occurred in your mind. 

 

I see us getting Bouye and Warford in FA for starters..... and the CB and DE I'm getting might really be good. The CB just ran a 4.29, and the DE looks legit as a pass rusher worth developing. Take a look at him.

I have been away for a while, but with the combine winding down, I guess I can put in my two cents.

 

First though, I will offer my Free Agent selection prognostications:

 

1. A.J. Bouye - CB - Texans

 

I think he will be the Jags No. 1 target and they will blow him away with upfront cash.

 

2. Calais Campbell - DE - Cardinals

 

I think that Coughlin will want to sign a veteran DE to show the young kids the ropes.

 

3. Larry Warford - OG - Lions

 

Jags will settle for Warford after Zeitner picks the Raiders.

 

4. Kyle Juszczyk - FB - Ravens

 

Another Coughlin selection - A FB that can be an offensive weapon as well as a be a lead blocker.

 

5. Jarius Byrd - S - Saints

 

Not exactly a SS, but a ballhawk who has something to prove with a one year prove it deal.

 

6. Dion Sims - TE - Dolphins 

 

Blocking TE that will be every bit as effective as Julius Thomas but at a bargain price.

 

 

Now the Draft:

 

Rd 1(4): Leonard Fournette - RB - LSU

 

The big workhorse RB that will help Bortles become the QB he can be, by taking away all the pressure to win every game with his arm. Fournette will be the Jags Adrian Petersen RB and make the Jags offense look more like that of the Steelers - run heavy. This system works - see Carolina and what they did with a running game and a QB who is not that much better than Bortles.

 

 

Rd 2(35): Tanoh Kpassagnon - DE - Villamnova

 

Right now he is a top half Rd 2 player who if he gets by the Patriots in Rd 1, will be the BIG DE that Coughin loves to draft.

 

Rd 3(68): Fabian Moreau - CB - UCLA

 

Big CB, with elite speed and tough against both the run and pass in press coverage.

 

Rd 4(110): Josh Jones - SS - N.C. State

 

The Big SS who can run and cover, so much so, that he was a FS as a senior even though he is sized to be a SS. Big hitter, lots of tackles. Speed to run with TEs and RBs.

 

Rd 5(149) Adam Shaheen - TE - Ashland 

 

Kind of a sleeper who has size and decent speed.

 

Rd 6(189) Jessamen Dunker - OG - Tennessee State

 

Small school OG who shined at Senior Bowl.

 

Rd 7(225): Kareem Are - OG - FSU

 

Plagued with concussion problems is why he falls. Can he play? Who knows.

 

 

Not bad at all both in FA and draft. In the draft, however, I'd much rather go Jamal Adams at #4 and then in round 4 there should still be some really good RBs... perhaps even Brian Hill as I mocked above.


 

Shaheen would be an awesome round 5 TE, but he's probably gone by then. If he's gone George Kittle, Jonnu Smith, Michael Roberts and Jeremy Sprinkles intrigue me. This truly is a DEEP class of TEs.

I kind of think Mixon goes higher too... I'm hoping if he does we can still get McNichols in round three.


 

As for Feeney, he's should be a day one starter at G as well... it's just he doesn't have the bulldozing power that Dawkins has. He's more of an athletic, zone blocker. ... Dawkins is plenty athletic as well though considering he was a three-year starter at LT. In fact the only real ding I can even find on Dawkins is that he plays better in tighter spaces instead of being alone on an island. Moving him to G in the NFL should be a perfect fit especially considering he's one of the best run blockers in this draft.

Nice job getting the 1st 2 free agents. Regarding your draft picks, I have to agree on Fournette. He will be tempted by Allen, who would also be a great pick if the medical staff approves however running back is a greater need. My draft would look like this following our free agency haul:

 

Rd. 1 - Fournette

 

       2- Dan Feeney- This guy has Coughlin written all over him. Tough, hard-working and leader. Starts day 1 at right guard and Cann moves to left guard.

 

       3- Gerald Everett- Play-making tight end to compete with Koyack and Sterling.

 

       4. Nathan Peterman- Local product who is on the rise. He's worth a shot if still available at this spot.

 

       5- Jordan Morgan- Small school stud who will compete as depth at guard.

 

       6- Kendall Beckwith- Linebacker may drop due to ACL. 

 

       7- Daeshon Hall- Raw sidekick of Myles Garrett. Developmental pass rusher.

It's all about what you think a guy can do next level. Fournette is huge and can run. McCaffrey is a good player but he doesn't seem like he could put an NFL team on his back and grind out tough yards in the trenches. He seems like a guy you would need to get on the edge and let's face it...Fournette is a man amongst boys out there on the field.

Fournette was a man against boys in college, and if you watch he didn't actually "grind out touch yards in the trenches" at least not effectively. Now he's just going to be one of the guys physically, and we think he will someone get better at it?
