Yeah. I see Bush with less explosion,  and I see Woodhead with more power but less control.  

 

You can see that CM has some pretty good field vision, but he often looks a little out of control when attempting to evade defenders.

After watching how the Patriots used that receiving back White to carve up that cover 3 of Atlanta, my mind jumped straight to McCaffrey. His route running isn't that talked about but it's there. I hear some people downplaying his explosiveness too. New Orleans would be a good fit but I think they are more focused on their defense. I guess it probably won't happen now but I would have loved to see him play in New England with Brady/Edelman, his jack of all trades skillset and the precise route running screams Patriots to me.  

 

Edelman if he lines up as a WR.   Le'Veon Bell when he lines up as a RB.   The same deliberate, patient, running style.

I still think he plays like Darren Sproles. He's a guy that needs to get into space, but once he's there he's a terror.

The point is that there isnt any reason to think he cant handle a full workload since hes already done it. Mccaffrey isnt reggie.

I wouldn't play him full time at RB.  I'd play him part time RB, part time WR.   If the defense lines up in a standard 7 man front, motion him out to WR, and make a LB cover him.  Or, if the defense is in nickle, hand off to him as a RB. 

 

I would also add, he hasn't hit any women, there are no pictures of him snorting coke in Vegas, and he doesn't have an entourage.

I was only comparing them for their college "star power". McCaffrey's off the field stuff is that of a choir boy. He has extremely high character.

Watch the Oregon 2016 cut-up and you'll see what I'm talking about. There's a bit less patience and control and a bit more flailing toward a crease and it doesn't always end well. He still had 135 yards rushing in that game and another 50 through the air. It wasn't "bad" but some of the off-balance stuff stood out to me. 

 

I like him a lot.  I don't know that I like him at #4 -  but my critique of him is a minor one.  I would feel we got a good versatile back if they did take him early.   I mean -  I compared him the Reggie Bush didn't I?

Oh, I agree, absolutely not at 4.    I wouldn't take him until 12 at the earliest.  But I'll bet he won't last past 20. 

 

He won't be playing for us.   What Blake needs is a between the tackles power running back to keep the pass rush off of him. 

 

If I were the Pats, for example, I would pick McCaffrey over Fournette.   If I were the Jags, I would pick Fournette over McCaffrey.   McCaffrey needs to go to a particular type of system.  But if he does, he'll be rookie of the year.

He has a play style similar to reggie bush to me. 

 

he might not traditionally carry the load like a RB, getting 20-25 hand offs a game, probably closer to 10-12, but i bet he will be on the field a ton lined up all over to create mismatches.
