McShay's new mock draft: OJ Howard at #4 (merged threads)

Howard is a wasted pick at 4 IMO.  Solomon Thomas is the the guy we want.  If he doesn't fall, we go Allen.  If we don't like Allen's med eval, I've gotta believe we go Fournette or trade down.

Can't pass on Thomas or a healthy Allen.  If they're not options, we need offensive help, but the areas we need it are RB and O-line.  4 is certainly too early for a guard and there aren't any tackles worth it IMO.  I'm personally hoping we can trade down.

I'm on board with this.

Our tight ends arent good at all, barely even serviceable. I fail to see how thats a wasted pick.

Thomas gone,

Lewis not a game changer

Two unproven guys currently on roster.

Watch these highlights.

This guy looks like A Rob with a few extra pounds and maybe he's even a hair faster.

IMHO this guy could be very productive right away.

I think TC wants this guy at #4.

Beat me to it.

The other 2 Howard threads on the first page weren't enough.

I think the problem is none of these have the proper asterisks designation to make them official. I'd only j dub made the thread...
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

NFL.com's Chad Reuter call's OJ Howard the safest offensive prospect in the draft.  ^

A surprise?  We've been talking about it for over a week here and one of the most popular draft analysts mocked him to the Jags 6 days ago.

"Aaron Curry is the safest prospect in the draft"

This doesn't mean anything.

Just the messenger here -- fanning flames.

The only way they go there is if they really don't trust a RB at #4 and feel similarly about Allen's medical report.

Though I prefer using a later pick on TE, I still can't say I'd hate Howard at 4 because I do believe he'll be a very good TE in the league.

Like many, I'm crossing all fingers and toes for an unlikely trade down.

I'm hoping for Thomas. Our Dline would instantly be a top 5 in the league if we add him.

Folks, I don't normally do this but your not gonna believe it so I provided proof.

Yes. I was assuming he was off the board in the scenario I described.  I'd prefer Thomas to Howard at #4.

Yep, there was that one guy almost a decade ago.

That renders all opinions useless going forward.

At one point, he also said Bosa, Elliot, and Conklin were the safe picks in 2016.

I doubt Howard performs as well as those three, but there may be some significance in his opinion.

I could see Howard being a top 5-10 pick.  I know a top 10 TE rarely happens, and a top 5 TE has never happened, but given the way the game is played now, I could see it happening more often than it has.

I have little doubt this draft will be offense heavy.  I believe TC was serious when he observed they need to give Bortles some help.

For us, it would depend upon how heavily Marrone's offense utilizes the TE, and what they think about Fournette.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

It depends on what "help" he deems Blake needs.

For Howard, the sky is the limit. But he does need a creative OC that will utilize him to his full potential for him to be worth the pick. When you look at the things OJ can do, you see things that New England did with both Gronk AND Hernandez.
