How many times has Bortles won a game for us himself?

Rashad Greene is a perfect example of a player who declined under Gus Bradley.

So true

Quote:True but you can't say the defense didn't put the offense in position to win games when the offense struggled dearly sustaining drives last season. You can't blame the defense when they are gassed out because they are always on the field.

It's time this moronic meme is put to bed. The offense averaged more then 29 minutes of possession per game. If you think your defense needs your offense to possess the ball for more than that per game then you're really just looking for excuses for it. Good defenses don't get gassed playing a half of a game.

The Jaguars have sucked because they were a mediocre team with epically poor coaching, not because the offense couldn't average a few more seconds of possession per game.

Quote:I'm not Blake's mom, girlfriend, or family member but it gets tiresome and annoying when Blake is the main theme of why this team is losing but not bring other factors into the equation. Like I said many times this fan base is clearly suffering from losing seasons syndrome and Blake has become the ire of people frustration which is not right. Blake Bortles has regress last year but from the moment he became the starter of this franchise he was setup to fail. Is like you and others take your criticism of Blake to the extreme on this topic and other topics on here and it makes somebody like me to become defensive because of it. All I'm asking from you and others who are down on Blake to please let it play out before throwing in the towel on his career as a Jacksonville Jaguar quarterback.
If you go to any board of a perennial losing franchise (e.g. Browns) their fans blame it on the QB because you have to be able to blame it on someone.  The fact the Jags kept buffoon Gus Bradley on board for 4 years and the fact there are no players left from the 2013 draft on the team is proof of the ineptness of organization. Hopefully that is changing with TC on board.

This is an example of looking at a stat and drawing conclusions based on the face value of that stat without looking further into it.  Your general point is valid, but it doesn't look at the situations where a defense just successfully played a series and forced a punt only to have the offense hold the ball for a short period of time and turn it over deep in their own territory forcing the defense back out there quickly and in a poor situation.  That wears a defense out.  Despite that, the defense was better at holding teams to field goals this past year than they were the year before.  But the deeper implication here is that we've done that way too much and more than any other team since Blake has been here.

And this is an example of feeling something is true that isn't true and refusing to accept what the stats show. No need for more "alternative facts" we've got plenty of them recently.

The defense wasn't getting gassed last year, it just was a unit with some holes and a coach that couldn't game plan if his life depended on it.

What does it have to do with the defense "getting gassed?"

You said that I "felt something was true that wasn't".  What I said was that the defense was forced back out quickly and in bad situations way too frequently.  That thread clearly illustrates that to be true.  Feel free to clarify, but I don't think my interpretation of your meaning was a stretch.  I even said your general point was valid.  So take it easy there kemosabe.

Linder and Telvin are the only ones who got consistently better under Gus. Just imagine how much better they can be with a different coach

I might read it over later when I have the time and desire for it.

I can say with confidence, though, that the defense was young enough and the time of possession for the Jaguars was enough that there would be few times that the defense would actually be gassed.

The money spent in free agency on defense tells you all you need to know about how effective the defense was.

Interestingly enough, winning games in the clutch was Bortles strength at UCF.

That game vs Louisville (Bridgewater) was a classic.  He also came back from a 17-0 deficit vs SMU in a must win game to take the conference championship in 15 degrees below zero wind chill

I'm not interested in digging up the thread, but I think your last post in the thread speaks volumes. The Jaguars were far too sloppy as a team to win many games, and it wasn't just Blake. You shouldn't have 7 RB fumbles on the season and you shouldn't have multiple turnovers on special teams. If they had been exceptionally great on turnovers they probably go 8-8 which really says the team was bad. Whether that's poorly coached or just untalented, the 2016 Jaguars weren't a team that was good enough to be a playoff calibur team even if they had "spotted" no points at all during the season. If the Jaguars cut their turnovers in half that will be a good accomplishment. Two RB fumbles on the season and 10 or so INTs along with one special teams turnover should be considered an average effort.

Hopefully with decent coaching and another infusion of talent the team can finally start playing good enough to actually win a bad division like the AFCS.
