Caldwell accidently let slip team is targeting defense at 4?

David Caldwell is definitely not letting anything "slip" in an ESPN interview, people.
I'm sure there is a scenario or two in which they take a defensive player at 4 and others in which they go offense there. But trying to read any tea leaves from that interview is not going to reveal anything.
Did anybody see that clip of Malik hooker making one handed catches like 5 yds in front of the jug machine. I'm not saying I'm on board with taking him at 4 but it definitely impressed me.

The real question is if his tackling issues are coachable or not. If so, he's top 5 talent, no question. If not, then hard to say where he goes. We show less advertisements to registered users. I really don't see where he slipped anything. They were complementing the defense and he said we also have a top 4 pick too. Came off like a gloating remark. Like "Yeah we just became dominant in FA on defense- and we can still be even better if we want hahahaha"
I'd be shocked if we went defense and it's not Solomon Thomas (who will likely be a 49er). The value isn't there for a safety or corner. The only other guy could be Jon Allen.
Quote:David Caldwell is definitely not letting anything "slip" in an ESPN interview, people. This. And decision makers around the league know this as well. This could just as easily be interpreted as he's definitely targeting offense. But really means nothing at all. Quote:I really don't see where he slipped anything. Like "Yeah we just became dominant in FA on defense- and we can still be even better if we want hahahaha"The need may not be there but the value is IMO. If we didn't have Gipson, Church, or Bouye, I'd think that we'd be definitely going with a safety or DB

If we didn't have Gipson, Church, or Bouye, I'd think that we'd be definitely going with a safety or DB It's only been one year, but Gipson was disappointing. I think we can get out of this contract at the end of this year with little or no penalty as there were only $12 million guaranteed . So, if Hooker is really as good as advertised, he could be the pick.
I have to be honest.
If we pick Hooker to play FS, then we just might have the best defensive backfield in NFL history. L.O.B.? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! They obviously at that point think his tackling can be fixed and his range and physical ability is insane. Quote:I have to be honest. Which is why we should take him. The secondary would be terrifying.
Quote:Two thoughts... Hmmm, wasn't it debatable last year as to whether Ramsey would be a CB or a safety? Would Ramsey at safety and Lattimore at CB be better or worse than Ramsey at CB and Hooker at safety? Personally I'm in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" camp and wouldn't risk moving Ramsey to safety, but Caldwell might think differently. Quote:Hmmm, wasn't it debatable last year as to whether Ramsey would be a CB or a safety? For the last time, Ramsey is a shut down corner in the NFL. Quote:"Can't draft a tight end in the top 5"......"Can't draft a cb in the top 5"......"Can't draft a safety in the top 5" Some say rb too. The nfl game is changing. And some will never think outside the box. A big part of this game is creating and defending mismatches. Coaches spend sleepless nights before gameday every week. There is huge value when you can draft a key piece of the offensive or defensive puzzle whether it be Howard, Hooker, Latimore or Fournette.Versatility/hybrid is how the NFL is changing. Players that can offer that are becoming more and more valuable, players that don't aren't. That's why a TE that can line up anywhere from split end to slot to inline to in the backield, stand up a DE like Garrett, and also get 20 yards downfield to block in the run game is getting top 5 consideration. That's why a SS that can play the box, play nickel corner, and also play single high is getting top 5 consideration. That's why a RB who can punish someone on the second and third levels, get tackled behind the LOS frequently, average 3.5 YPC from shotgun, and show raw receiving and blocking skills is getting top 5 consideration. Oh wait... Quote:So no nickel corner at 4, no TE at 4, no RB at 4, no DL left and no OL worth the pick and safety and linebacker aren't a needs. Grrrrreat gotta pick somebody. What makes you think no Rb?? I believe it's either Rb or Qb.. Two of the teams biggest needs.. |
