I have a problem with people calling the Texans geniuses in all of this.

 

They were the ones who made the mistake of signing Osweiler to a huge deal in the first place.

 

They were the ones who had to pay a team a 2nd round pick to take his contract off their books.

Yeah IF that pick becomes a starter, they're gonna wind up paying about 22 million as opposed to the normal about 6 million that a second rounder would make.


So they might have got an extra contributor out of it but it's also costing them a load of money that they could have used to lock up other free agents and restructure or extend current contracts.


Chris ivory is a starter and these same savants praising the browns for essentially wasting money, on the flip side condemn Caldwell for wasting money on ivory.

If we are talking about a cash strapped team I'd buy into your argument but the Browns have more money than they were going to spend anyways this year...so the point kind of becomes moot.

They had enough money to get more free agents if they wanted to, that 16 mill didnt prevent them from getting anyone.


And who needed to be extended? They have like 5 good players on their team. And with the money they still have who on their team is out of their price range for an extension?


On top of all that, Brocks contract comes off after this year, get that money back with no long term harm done to their cap and they have an extra high pick to go with it.

Ok. I see what you're saying and that would be one logical argument. Even though I don't agree, I understand the logic.
