Fiesta Bowl thread: Okay Bortles...impress me.

Quote:No Manziel has way more upside, ask any NFL scout or GM

How do you define upside? Who had more upside? Drew Brees or Alex smith?

If a qb has the tools then their upside is a top qb. It's all about the likelihood the qbs reaches their upside.

Quote:THats eerily almost exactly what was said about Gabbert when he was entering the NFL

Yeah, it's also what people said about Sam Bradford compared to Tim Tebow.

Quote:Man....what's with some of you guys....we're just talking accuracy......with pads and moving and under pressure, he has proved he is better than anybody when healthy

Because passing accuracy with a pass rush involved is a better evaluation of skill then just doing trick play videos.

Quote:Well a real NFL scout and GM pretty much just said on twitter the NFL draft board said he is a 2nd round pick, which means at best he can go in the mid first round, so if you draft him at 3 your a fool.

What do you mean "at best he can go in the mid first round"?

Anyways, the advisory board is well known for being conservative with their rankings because they don't want to screw over a player by overrating him then having him plummet when the actual draft rolls around.

Quote:Where are you coming up with this....I've watched him all year....he's dead accurate. There's a video I posted in College Football. Manziel is throwing footballs thru basketball hoops from the top of A&M stadium. You can't have subpar accuracy and do that. Watch the dang video. The title is Manziel Trick Shots
LOL

It's already been said, but it probably took Manziel 500 tries to do that before he actually made one.

In my opinion, Manziel has great accuracy on the move, but his accuracy and decision-making in the pocket is nothing special. It's not bad, but it's not great either.

IIRC they had chandler jones as a third rounder.

They also said that Cam Newton wasn't going to be the #1 overall pick, but 4 months to sit on him for a team makes a huge difference and he ended up going first, so what one team says about a guy doesn't mean anything. Which should be evident by this last draft for sure.

Bortles might be the real deal...I can tell that some of you guys watched the first half and made your mind up on him based on nothing else.

Manziel and Bortles each have the upside you look for in a top 5 pick.  Bortles is a very cerebral QB who plays a tad like Big Ben.  Manziel is a scrappy QB with fire and a gunslinger mentality who honestly reminds me of a diminutive Favre.  Pick your poison.

I dont mean he cant go higher, if you over draft him maybe you pick him in the mid first so you dont lose him, I know he can go higher but that would be foolish, yes the draft board will be conservative but if your a top 10 pick your a top ten pick nobody is gonna be conservative about it.

If i'm picking 3 i'm not picking somebody i'm conservative about its gotta be a on of the sure top talented players in the draft.

Which was the point. Being a great college QB doesn't mean you'll be a good NFL QB. The fact that Manziel was great in college will mean nothing in the NFL, and just because Bortles wasn't a Heisman-winning QB in college (although he was very good for UCF) doesn't mean he can't be a great NFL QB.

Look, guys. Size and strength are only means to an end!

Blaine Gabbert is one of the biggest QB's in the NFL (6'5 I believe) and he flat out sucks. Everyone knows this, and knows that despite him having 'all the tools', he can't produce, so he's nothing.

So if we were presented with someone who doesn't have the stature, but has the attitude, the production, and the supreme talent, why would we not take him?

Man if we could put manziel into bortles body I'd take that. Bortles looks the part and he's certainly better in the pocket than gabbert. But he isn't consistently accurate or mechanically sound enough for my liking with such a high pick.
