They've done this before, taking an aging star RB that still has a little left in the tank. They used Corey Dillon a lot in his final year (winning a SB then too).
I could see it working similarly as the Dillon situation if they do land AP for a year or 2. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I think AP has something left in the tank. The Pats will use him in a committee situation like they did Blount but I think AP is far more dangerous. I know he's a 32 year old with injuries but if he is still 80% of what he was a year ago... 6 rings.
Calling Deshawn Watson a future bust since 3/19/17. If I eat crow, I will keep this in here and proclaim JackCity a genius.
Twitter seems to think they're doing it as leverage to get Blount back on a deal they want, which sounds like a Patriots thing to do. I see little reason to believe AD is better than Blount at this point.

Facebook seems to think signing AP will make New England the greatest team of all time... funny how soon they forget about how he's done, washed up, over the hill etc until he possibly signs with the Patriots.

He might be all of those things, he might not. He is 37 carries removed from a 1500 yard season. It's possible that father time has caught up to him at last, possible it hasn't, or maybe somewhere in between. As part of a committee, he may have a role to play.

Patriots are going for it all as the moves they've made has shown. Brady only has a few years left and they are (correctly) taking advantage of it.
I'm still expecting them to deal Jimmy G. for a boatload of picks to Cleveland during the draft. He's in the final year of his contract and can't see BB signing his backup QB to a big deal. With how we are being constructed, if Jimmy G does hit FA I expect us to make a serious run for his services. Quote:Patriots are going for it all as the moves they've made has shown. I also think he will wanna go somewhere with very little qb competition. The pats can trade him and not worry about it with Brady wanting to play for several more years. Jimmy g would be going to waste in his prime. If Brady wound up injured it would either be next jar on the shelf or find a stopgap, and everyone wants to play for the pats so that wouldn't be too hard.

I wonder why they didn't sign him, if it is a money or role issue, or if the Pats really do think he is done.

Quote:I wonder why they didn't sign him, if it is a money or role issue, or if the Pats really do think he is done. It's not like there's a huge market for him right now. The Pats are probably letting him sweat it out for a bit so the price tag becomes something a bit more realistic. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Their beat writer Tom Curran said he didn't believe they had any interest and merely did it as a favor to ADs agent who represents other players on the team.
Upright runner who lacks in pass protection and is over 30 is a bad combination, previous HOF production or not.

The Pats are well known for being a team that uses low-cost interchangeable running backs who sometimes play special teams.
Does anyone really think the Patriots would pay what Peterson thinks he's worth? Unless Peterson all of a sudden is willing to take a low-cost deal with plenty of incentives I just don't see it. He'll get a better offer somewhere else. I don't see Adrian as one of those "I'm at the end of the line and I'll do anything for a ring" kind of guys.

Quote:It's not like there's a huge market for him right now. The Pats are probably letting him sweat it out for a bit so the price tag becomes something a bit more realistic. i would agree here. that is the most logical reasoning. they dont need AP, even if they think he would be a good addition, theyre not gonna pay the 8 million? he wanted. if someone wants to overpay, so be it, if not, AP will come knocking again.

I also think APs lack of pass blocking ability is a big factor. Imagine AP doesnt pick up his man and lets some guy run free to kill brady. And you cant add a pure blocking back to the rotation cause that makes things on offense vastly more predictable.
AP sounds really nice on paper for the Pats and everyone loves to connect every FA with the Pats but I think theres not only contractual differences but huge football differences as well.
