How real is the possibility of Watson at 4?

#21

Quote:Please no.

Look, the guy has all the stuff you want in a QB just like Borltes, but his arm is not NFL caliber plain and simple. It's a weak arm by league standards... he throws way too slow... and he's erratic as heck with accuracy issues galore.  After Gabbert, we really don't need that.

If you must have a QB early, the guy is Trubisky. He's raw but it looks like he's got it, only the Jaguars haven't even talked to him so I'm thinking QB is really not an option at all. I honestly cannot imagine this regime being ignorant enough to draft Watson.

He's clutch though. And those mental skills can't be taught.  And he can make the holes.  The media is just hyping the negative things with Watson.   Because he came out of no where.  Blanked Myers Ohio State.  Blew um out.  And beat the top college team this decade Bama.  To be number 1.

Caldwell takes trade value very seriously. He's not about to take Watson at #4.

Do you all have coffee together?  My buddy Tom has the final say.  Jk I do not know Coughlin personally.

Quote:It's impossible to tell what's going through Tom and Dave's minds right now, but I think there are a couple of things which make it unlikely.

1 - It might make sense to play out Bortles final year, in the hope that he can be saved and use the valuable pick on another position of need.

2 - If they are planning to move on from Bortles, it would make more sense to wait until the following draft, which most people believe is a better crop of QBs.
If they are not planning on picking up Bortles 5 year option, they need to get his replacement on the roster now rather than wait until next year when Bortles is gone and have to start a green rookie QB...I suppose they might be able to negotiate a 1 year deal with Bortles but he might want a longer contract...

Quote:In round two you might be right. He's among a few first round prospects like Njoku who just might find himself slipping to #35.

Caldwell isn't taking Cam in round one because from that point on he will forever be compared to Gene Smith as far as who reached harder for a first rounder... Caldewell for Cam or Gene Smith for Alualu? The prospect of being Gene Smith 2.0 should keep him well clear of that route.

Robinson was supposed to be the best OL in this class at the beginning of the year,he has that Bama pedigree, and Coughlin loves reaching for an OT ala Eric Flowers with the Giants. I'm not saying I want this to be this pick,I just have a weird hunch. Plus I believe Marrone flew to Bama today to watch Robinson workout and also visit with him.

We're probably better off waiting a year. There will be much better QB options in next year's draft.

This all makes sense because they are looking at him very closely as their potential #35 pick.

I agree I'm just saying if we [BLEEP] can Bortles after this year, we will be in a position to either start a newly drafted rookie next year or Henne...I would much rather not have to put our faith and trust in a rookie qb, or Henne

Don't forget about Allen.

This reminds me of the talk about drafting Bridgewater with the top pick before he slid to the bottom of round 1. I think Watson will be a late 1st or early 2nd round pick, so no way should the Jaguars select him at 4. It's a waste of a pick.

I'm not I just figure if they don't think he's ready to be Bortles back up, he certainly isn't ready to be the starter....They resigned Henne for a reason

I think that was the thought because he was viewed as a left tackle. I think it's much more likely he ends up at guard or right tackle. That hurts his value.

I think he's better than Blake.

Period.

Tape doesn't lie

But I agree with a few of you who said it would cause crazy controversy between hi. And Blake.

Idk if they do it or not...

I'd be happy if they did

He's really that good

If I had to list out players by probability of being the 4th pick, I'd list him behind Thomas, Allen, Fournette and Hooker.
Barnett?

Word... the only thing Watson does better than Blake is throwing the fade pass.
