So, I guess YOU think the OL has no holes.  The most sacked QB in the NFL over the last three years says hello.  So does one of the more pedestrian running games. 

If you want to fix the run game, taking George Kittle would be the best way to do that, best run blocking TE in the draft.  Not reaching for a position of need.

Expecting starters from rounds four and later is no recipe for success.  Help is not on the way from those picks.

 

Rounds four and later are like lotto picks.  You aren't expected to win, but if you do... great.  So if you're "banking" on return from any of the next picks you're setting yourself up for disappointment.  History tells us these picks don't live out their rookie contracts, much less become starters.

 

Which is why I made the point yesterday that picking Smoot when there were starter quality OGs available was a poor decision.  Oh, well.  If you don't fix your greatest needs, you'll keep getting what you've always gotten.   At least we got Fournette and Robinson.

 

It remains to be seen if an injured, old, doesn't want to be here Albert is better than Beachum.  Chances are that he may not start (or start for long) over Robinson.  If that's the case, it's a wasted FA signing.  Linder comes back which is good.  Cann, Omameh, Shatley, Bowanko, Parnell...meh.  This is the year they needed to pull out all the stops to fix the dang line.  And they haven't done that.  Without a good O-line, we will never contend in the division, much less the playoffs.

Who the hell cares what our scouts say or if they fit what we want to do, just take them.

Meh. Despite Caldwell's claim that Cam will compete with Albert for starting LT, I don't see that set in stone. Cam can just as easily slide over to RT or guard. He'd make a heck of a guard. Point is, he's too talented to sit on the bench.

Cam won't be sitting on the bench, I can promise you that. As you said, too talented to not be playing. We aren't playing Onmameh or Parnell over him.

Did you not just see what happened with Conley who got taken rd 1? 

 

These guys do SOOO much homework on these players and talk to so many people. Caldwell may have been told that the story was untrue/fabricated.

What you're going to get at this point of the draft at OL are more Bowankos.  They're going to be in the OL "mix" but not likely standout starters.

 

If you choose to freak out about OL, that's your choice.  It would be wise to realize help isn't likely on the way.  I'd like to add some OL with the remaining picks as well, but understand the quality of players that are left on the board.  They aren't what you seem to think they are.  They are on competition level with what we already have.

 

You may well be right about the quality of OL that remains.  I just can't wrap my head around not fixing a fixable unit.  One or two quality FA signings and two high draft picks could have netted us a good O-line.  I would have been happy with Fournette and two big uglies for the OL, then a couple of late round camp fodder picks.  

 

But, my rant is over for now.  We'll see how the season unfolds. *sigh*

That's why I love the pick. Really liked Lamp, but he can only play guard. I think Marrone likes O-linemen who are versatile. I read that he might switch lineman around in training camp to see who's the best fit, and to give us more options at each position.

Yes, because I don't like putting the team at a stake because we don't draft a certain position. Like I said, say Dede ends up an impact WR who takes the top off a defense, would you rather have a guy who is a fringe starting OG/just depth? Or what?

 

I'm all about value and going BPA, especially past the first couple rounds. If you have a similar grade on a position of need as the guy, take him, but if not then thats just stupid. This draft has been called a weak OL class for a long, long time now. So let's force a pick just because we could use depth/someone making that spot more competitive?

I didn't think we needed him. After watching video on him, I think he immediately adds a dimension to our receiving crew. Probably the fastest receiver on the Jags. Has some ability for YAC, shifty, and can high point the ball. Kick returner. Definitely does remind me a little bit of a poor man's Desean Jackson or Anotnio Brown. I don't hate this pick.
