I am a HS football coach in Texas who loves the Longhorns and Caleb Blueitt because of what he did, the way he did it and because I have two friends that know him well and absolutely love the guy.


I fully believe you guys got a steal in Blueitt and are going to be really glad he is on your team. I'm not saying he will go to the Pro Bowl, but unless yall are really good at tight end, this one should stick and be a very valuable member of your team.


Blueitt had just about everything at Texas go goofy and it kept him from ever really getting a full opportunity to show what he could do. He had three head coaches, played two positions and had four offensive coordinators.


He came in as a defensive end but, due to need, moved to tight end. Then he was returned to defense. Then he moved to offense. Nobody seems to have ever heard him complain "make up your mind!"


His junior year, our only real QB that was capable of completing anything more difficult than a swing pass had his career ended in the first game of the season. His senior year, he played under an offensive coordinator who would flat out tell you he wasn't throwing to the tight end. All he wanted the tight end to do was block as either an in line guy or as an h-back. On the few occasions Blu got to run a pass route, it was pretty much just to try to make the defense cover the middle - so we could throw outside.


Don't know just how good his hands are because we threw to him so rarely, but I watched every game and don't recall him ever dropping a pass and he made a few big catches. As a blocker, he did an outstanding job. He is supposedly a super nice guy off the field, but he blocks with an attitude. He isn't a blazer, speed wise, but he isn't slow. Probably a legit 4.8 guy. Well he chose the right team then.  Cause we have outside of Lewis.  A 100% competition for other two spots.  So if he can show he can ball.  He could stick.  One of our main needs was TE and we drafted none.

Actually, making this team as a TE will be fairly difficult.  The Jaguars have Marcedes Lewis, the FA from Oakland, Ben Koyack, and Sterling.  Beating out any one of those four will be fairly difficult.  They have all been professional athletes for at least two years.  So two years in the weight room and two years learning routes and techniques ... .

Why would they begin an announcement in he middle of the event? That was messed up, he threw the kid off like that.  Imagine if that announcer had just shut up and let the kids run, Kenny prolly woulda never hit that hurdle and maybe woulda continued his love for track.  Would he be a Jaguar today?

From what I read, he doesn't have any real traits. Not very athletic. Not very strong. He was simply a try hard and it worked.

You can count on most if not all being signed. Every once in a long while you'll see a name listed that gets a call somewhere else and is gone, but that's fairly rare. If it happens you cross him off the list. For now, this is my list in progress...

I'Tavious Mathers is a smaller somewhat shifty RB with some impressive video on FB. Unfortunately for Mathers, at his size he looks to challenge Corey Grant for a spot as the team's scat back, and you know that's not gonna happen.

Let's take a look at the LBs...


 

LB Justin Horton, Jacksonville U
, is 6-2, 235 and bills himself as a DE or 3-4 OLB capable of edge rushing. I see him as a prime candidate for the backup SLB role behind Poz. Interestingly, his career going back to high school has had him playing RB, FB, G, OT, TE, DT and DE, and now he'll be playing OLB. He's also come back from an ACL injury although he's well past that.


 

<strong>LB Carroll Phillips, Illinois, at 6-3, 242 is a rather highly graded edge rusher apparently also in the mix for that Ott... err... SLB role behind Poz. His skill-set includes great lateral quickness with run stuffing abilities making him a nice fit for the SLB role.
</strong>

 

LB PJ Davis, Georgia Tech, is 5-11, 231, and is a tackling machine as a classic WILL backer. Of note, he had a fumble recovery for a TD in his bowl game at Everbank. The Falcons asked him to come in and try out as a FB, but he opted to sign outright with the Jaguars as a LB.

He supposedly has less that 30" arm length, which means that he is close to the OT and thus is projected to be nullified as a DE in the NFL.

 

Still he holds the school record for sacks at Utah.

 

He must have done something right in the PAC 12 to garner all those sacks (14.5 in 2016).
