Blake Bortles 5th Year Option
|
Quote:Absolutely. It's going to be, take your pick per the agenda for that moment. Should be fun; the Doug/Dave/Tom flip show. Would love to be a fly on the wall to hear the finger pointing by the actual parties involved in their talks with Khan if this does end up falling apart sooner rather than later. Quote:People in denial about Blakes level compared to whats available. You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but I don't think you can draw that conclusion about what the front office thinks based on how this transpired. If they had picked it up before the draft, it would have been more of a clear vote of confidence.
Quote:There's one of two things to read into why they waited until after the draft to do this. They either wanted to feign interest in a QB to the rest of the league, or they did actually have interest in at least one of the QBs in the draft if he were available when they picked and he wasn't.Or they didn't have to pick it up till after the draft, so they just didn't do it till they had to. It was hardly a secret that we were going to draft Fournette, everyone and their brother saw it months ago.
Guess this account is the one now? Rip HR86 2010-2017.

Come on man, use your head.

No Hes got a clear vote of confidence for this year. What he does with it is up to him, but as far as competition goes they are giving him all the opportunity right now.

This shouldn't be a surprise. 2 things will come of this:
1. Blake improves and we sign him to a long term deal (team friendly hopefully). His 5th year would be at a discount of $18 million I believe. 2. Blake remains Blake and is released and we use our high 1st rounder next year to draft Darnold, Rosen, etc. Quote:So if we don't like moves, we're blaming Dave and leaving Coughlin completely out of the mix? Caldwell is the general manager. Bortles is his guy. Quote:Caldwell is the general manager. Bortles is his guy. Tom is the boss of operations. He's going to watch this happen and stay out of it? You're really not making yourself look good by doubling down on this. Care for a triple dip before the chance to correct yourself is gone? You think Tom's not good with this and Caldwell is acting on his own here? Tom willing to throw the franchise under the bus just to sit idle while Caldwell hangs himself with the QB selection?

Quote:Good lord. Caldwell needs to go. Please explain to us, in detail, why a team with our cap situation, is worse off for picking up this option that is not guaranteed and still allows us to cut Blake if he sucks again. Quote:Well... I'm still looking for a quote that says Coughlin doesn't believe in Blake. Those comments were completely invented. They are also a strawman that the tweet is aimed at. And in case you didn't notice, that's not a news report citing anything said by the club. It's merely Frenette sharing his opinion, which everyone is welcome to. Don't misconstrue that as "fact." Otherwise, the actions taken show Coughlin believes the best interest of the club and the best chance to win is with Blake right now.

If Bortles works out, hopefully we can use the 2018 discount to re-sign our key players: Telvin Smith, A-Rob, and Linder. I'd wait a little while for Lee - to see if he can stay healthy.
Here's what I see. Caldwell has put all of his eggs in the Blake Bortles basket. I know he just signed a new 3 year deal, but don't be surprised that if Blake struggles and we move on from him next year, that we also move on from Dave, and let Tom also assume his role for the last 2 years of his contract.

They said if he played bad we can cut him and it wont effect us it will be dead money, if he plays great it will be less then the Franchise tag

It also opens up the Franchise Tag for someone else next year if Blake bounces back this year.
Quote:I'm still looking for a quote that says Coughlin doesn't believe in Blake. Why would Coughlin come out and say he doesn't believe in one of his own guys. That is a quote you will never find no matter what he thinks of Bortles. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Why would Coughlin come out and say he doesn't believe in one of his own guys. That is a quote you will never find no matter what he thinks of Bortles. Tom hasn't wavered, whether you agree/like it or not. Otherwise, he wasted an entire draft getting help for Bortles - which is the ONLY thing he said the front office was dedicated to doing. No reason to fantasize differently about it.
"You do your own thing in your own time. You should be proud."
I'm definitely okay with Dave and Blake being married together for now. I'd like to see a clean sweep if Blake doesn't perform up to 2015 standards. I think he'll have a stronger run game and be asked to do less. However as we get deeper into games and the season he will be the guy in the fourth quarter that we can have balance with. Obviously that assumes Fournette is going to deliver the knockout punch.
