Blake Bortles 5th Year Option
|
Quote:Glennon just got 18M... lol Which is basically what we're doing. We've secured a backup plan in the event we're on the market (which is likely.) Imagine the outrage if he had to be tagged, which would be more... and not the image you want to project (tagging a guy while you're looking for his replacement.)

Should have just let him play this season as a lame duck.Lol Glennon got 18 million, in case you haven't noticed QBs cost a lot. So let's say they don't do the option he plays out the season and goes 4000 total yards 25 to 30 TDs with like 10 ints. Now they either let him go or tag him and lose out on tagging someone like Telvin and also lose 5 million in cap space. With the option they save the above and if he sucks they cut him and lose nothing. Quote:Lol Glennon got 18 million, in case you haven't noticed QBs cost a lot. A reminder that this could also end up being backup QB money.

Quote:Lol Glennon got 18 million, in case you haven't noticed QBs cost a lot. You can be in favor of the option and not exaggerate and mislead with your points. You've conveniently leaving out the possibility of signing Bortles to a team friendly long term deal in that scenario and you're likely over exaggerating the difference in free cap space between the tag and the option. The 2017 franchise tag for QB's is $21,268,000. We won't know what the number for 2018 will be until next year because they apparently work the team's salary cap into the calculation. But I doubt there's going to be an approximately $3 million dollar jump in the tag number to get to your $5 million savings. Let's just be honest here, the decision that was made was controversial for a reason. It was not an easy decision either way, nor is it cut and dry. It will have been the right decision in retrospect if the team can avoid significant injury to Blake this season and it will have been a horrendously wrong decision and so #BecauseJaguars if he tears his ACL or suffers some other serious injury that has him rehabbing next off season. The team would surely be shopping for the future at QB early in next year's draft if that happens and the money tied up in retaining Bortles could have been put to use somewhere else. And lastly on Glennon... It's essentially a 1 year deal for him as the cap hit to cut him after this season isn't significant. Teams will pay for an unknown quantity with potential like Glennon, especially when it's a team friendly deal and they can easily cut ties after this year. Bortles is largely a known quantity at this point. He's had turnover issues deep in his own territory since he entered the league. And teams aren't going to be falling all over themselves to pay for that if he doesn't flip the script this year.
LOL at "you can be in favor of the option and not exaggerate and mislead with your points", then going on to exaggerate and mislead with your points against it.
There's much less mental gymnastics that defy logic or spin required to see this is not a bad deal at all.

A long term team friendly deal is at best going to be 18 million per year based off of Glennon and Osweiler deals, maybe you could get it down to 17 million but I doubt it.
Quote:A reminder that this could also end up being backup QB money. A back up might be getting paid that, but it's starter money. No one is picking up back ups with the intention of paying them $18 mil. If by Trubisky's performance that's where Glennon ends up, that still wasn't the plan when the contract was drawn up and Glennon would be in line to be cut or traded for 2018.
Although I have been critical of Blake this was a good decision. He has the ability just needs to put it together. The coaching staff is improved and should have a much improved running game. Defense should keep us in games and generate more turnovers and opportunities for him.

Wow. Jalen Ramsey liked a tweet of Michael Lombardi trashing Bortles and the jaguars for picking up his option.
I guess im not the only one. Quote:Wow. Jalen Ramsey liked a tweet of Michael Lombardi trashing Bortles and the jaguars for picking up his option. You're the only one who scours the internet for this kind of thing and is giddy to share. You get that kind of reputation, it never goes away.

Quote:The goal is for Bortles to throw the ball much less. Establish a running game and the passing game becomes much easier. 100% correct. I'm so tired of people ONLY looking at Bortles mistakes. The kid has a ZERO margin for error with a #25-32 scoring defense, the worst head coach in NFL history, and NO running game. LOOK AT THIS..... Blake Bortles 2016 INT % = 2.6% Peyton Manning CAREER INT %= 2.7% Bortles mistakes are common for a gunslinger. The problem was always balance; if you're at the top of the league in passes thrown (and you're a gunslinger and not a checkdown specialist like Alex Smith/Dak/or Teddy) then you should lead the league in INTs. The goal is to have a MJD/Fred Taylor type running game and have Bortles throw the ball 100-150 less times per season. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
