Jags Will Win 10-12 Games This Year

Quote:I think assuming there will be a frequent loaded box is unwise.

I think they plan to discourage that by putting Lee and Westbrook out there enough to force defenses to play more honest.

More one on one matchups mean nothing if his accuracy is as poor as it was last year.

I'm not comfortable with all this assumption of improvement from the QB. I was encouraged by Hackett and Marrone using him more wisely - but he has to hold up his end too. And that could still go either way.

They're going to load the box against Fournette and if hey don't, even better for us. This man is about to come in and cause some serious problems. He's Fred, I'm telling you I think thats his closest NFL comp and I've seen a lot of both. Blake looked adequate when Marrone was HC and they started to add a few more wrinkles and begun to run the ball effectively. It's not a stretch to assume improvement because we've seen him play at a high level before and the footage from his workouts with House look good. The question will be, can he sustain that throughout the year if we keep him upright and lighten his load? That's why I agree with TC to give Blake a true chance to grab this franchise by the horns. I think he delivers for us and for his sake he better. I'm willing to be proven wrong on this and eat my crow later.

Quote:The Jaguars didn't do themselves any favors with turnovers, but this meme of absolving the defense because of turnovers is moronic. A big part of the problem is that the defense never caused any turnovers back to the offense.

Remember that #10 overall scoring defense in 2016, Pittsburgh? Pittsburgh comitted 15 INTs on the season, so one less than the Jaguars committed.

You know what the difference was? No excuses and good coaching. The Jaguars have been coddled in every position group for years. No more whining about what the offense did, time for the defense to be a true strength of the team, and top 10 isn't elite. The patriots allowed 250 points on the season. You know how many games the Jagaurs would have won if the defense held teams to 9 less points per game? 8 more games with one more tie which could go either way, so possibly 9 more wins, with the offensive output staying the same.

It's excuse makers being put in charge that allow teams to be as bad as the Jaguars have been for as long as they've been.

My point was the defense was already adequate last year and they brought in major difference makers this offseason to help them transition into an elite unit. Remember, I fully expect the young guys (Jones, Smith, Jack, Fowler, Yannick, Jalen) to take another step up this season, especially the FSU boys. You won't have many complaints about this defense, I'm telling you! Gone are Cyps terrible angles and Odrick getting hurt and being a total non factor. Plus we will be able to let Gipson play more aggressive with the interchangeable safety roles. We're going to maximize the potential of this roster instead of piss it away
LEONARD FOURNETTE FAN CLUB PRESIDENT. I WAS BEHIND HIM WHEN YOU ALL SAID HE WAS BRANDON JACOBS. QUIT HATING ON THE JAGUARS. GUS IS GONE. COUGHLIN HAS RESTORED ORDER. FOURNETTE IS FRED TAYLOR. DONT BELIEVE ME JUST WATCH.

Quote:Yeah, me either. I'll need more than just a video. Preseason is where I'll be judging. If they are fixed then I'm behind Bortles.

But if comes out and plays like Bottles, then I hope it's 2007 all over again and he's cut like Del Rio did Lefty.

I don't blame you one bit for being skeptical, but I look forward to celebrating with you when it happens! It's been 10 years, this fan base is getting what's due.

And my point is that the defense wasn't actually nearly as good as some stats suggested. Good defenses stop teams from scoring no matter where the drive stops, because they make stops, they don't let teams go 50 yards for a touchdown any more than they let teams go 75 yards for a TD.

Where is the weak spot on the defense?

LF is not Fred. In fact it's a terrible comp.

Fred could make defenders miss on a level second only to Barry Sanders.

Fournette flatly can not do that.

Terrible comparison.

I'm glad we have LF and I have high hopes for him and I expect it to help the QB. But let's not crown this RB with unworthy praise.

First off, this man WILLINGLY has a bald head, so he's not about to be slandered in that manner.

Fournette ran away from defenders his whole career at LSU and is roundly considered a generational running back prospect, the likes of which have not been seen since Adrian Peterson, in fact his cuts are faster than Peterson as clocked by sports science and his top speed is as fast as any player in the NFL. All of this is fact not conjecture. Of course, Fred Taylor was such a freak of nature, he could cut hard and with so much force he would tear his groin right off the bone. You are going to love cheering for Leonard Fournette, I think he's going to exceed your expectations for him.

My best guess would be its weakest point was coaching and game planning. Other than that I think that Cyp was a coverage liability, but the talent on the defense is (I think) good enough to be a real legitimate top ten unit.

Like I've been saying, anyone that places blame for the team's failings last year only on Bortles clearly doesn't understand what we all saw. The team underachieved badly against its talent level. I think that can stop in 2017.

Who put Fred Taylor in an LSU jersey?

Give me his numbers from last year and a competent coach wins 6 games. Even marginal improvement will help beyond measure

Bortles numbers? I agree. The team was rarely prepared to face their opponent with a winning plan.A terrible backup in Savage cleaning the Jaguars' clock in the second texans game (when Gus finally got [BLEEP] canned) really says everything that needs to be said about how bad Gus was. I have no doubt most of the players that don't care about winning loved him, who doesn't love fun uncle Gus that always has extra toppings to go with their sundae rather than more drills and time spent in the meeting rooms making sure everyone understands their keys and assignments to make a game plan work?

I think 12 wins is probably a big lift, but if the team gets the kind of improvement a good coach and a great running back should bring then it should win the division.

I love the Fournette pick. But if we're down 2 or 3 scores then we have to pass the ball. Which means Bottles has the put the team on his back. Leopold will say I'm crying. But Bortles will need to fix that motion before 10 wins happens.
I imagine Fournette will make a big difference in getting those goaline scores in the first quarter that we seemed unable to do last year.

NO, no no. Wow you invalidate your whole comment with that statement. They are such different runners. If you want to say he will be the best RB since Fred that we have had, I would be inclined to agree, but to say he is Fred. No way, completely different styles. Nvm, I am not doing this again.

I think he may be trying to imply that Gus isn't that bad, but not brave enough to state it. To which I say, no, Gus was that bad. He was literally the worst coach ever to have as long a tenure as he did. Pete Carrol, Bill Belichek, all had much better first rounds than Gus. Gus will not be coming back to haunt us. He had 4 years, and was terrible pretty much the entire time. Everybody likes Gus, but Mr. Sprinkles is not cut out to be an NFL coach.

The only other conclusion I can get is that he is saying that Cleveland hyped Belichek before hiring him. Well Belichek delivered, they went to the playoffs in 3 years, and had a positive point differential even in the 'moving season.' The dumbest thing the Browns/Ravens did was to fire him, just for fresh start sake. The other thing I would point out is all those exaples where before the coaches had their best teams.

We have Coughlin after he has already won a bowl. A more app comparison would be the Tuna, Bill Parcells. All the teams he went to improved, quite a bit. They might not have won superbowls, but they were a lot better.

Correct. Belichick took the browns to the playoffs. Carroll's first season as a head coach was better than any season Gus had, and he went to the playoffs an won a game in his second year as an NFL head coach.

That there are coaches that didn't get a fair shake at some point has nothing to do with Gus. He was by far the worst head coach in the modern era, and he got plenty of rope to hang himself with.

Is this the "comparison" from TC you are talking about?

Quote:Asked to compare Fournette to Fred Taylor, the ninth overall pick in a Coughlin draft, Tom said, “The one thing they both did is put it in the end zone. That’s what we need.”

Because ^  that doesn't help your point.  It means you're wrong and he didn't actually compare them

The running styles of the two backs is so different that it's literally a laughable comparison. They seriously look nothing alike running the football.
