What does Bortles need to do?

#41

Brunell was the most sacked QB for 2 years in a row.

He made the Pro Bowl and led us to the playoffs both years. With a Pro Bowl MVP (back when they played hard)

Quote:I think you may be right to a degree, we did win a lot more games with him here though. He had some decent years with us, but we were pretty average outside of 2007. Garrard was usually pretty serviceable though.

Garrard was only serviceable because he was so good at escaping pressure situations with his feet. As a passer, he had a nice short-to-mid game, but when throwing downfield typically only worked the sidelines aside from the occasional downfield strike when someone was streaking wide open. When it comes to downfield passing, Bortles with a healthy arm is far and away better.

David Garrard stats

2006 in 11 games he was 60.2 comp 1735 yds 10 tds 9 ints 21 pass attempts per game.

2007 in 12 games he was 64 comp 2507 yds 18 TDs 3 ints 27 pass attempts per game.

2008 in 16 games he was 62.6 comp 3620 yds 15 TD's 13 ints 33.4 pass attempts per game.

2009 in 16 games he was 60.9 comp 3597 yds 15 TD's 10 ints 32.2 pass attempts per game.

2010 in 14 games he was 64.5 comp 2734 yds 23 tds 15 ints 26.1 pass attempts per game.

He's pretty overrated but with a better coaching staff and structure around him.

Completion percentage can be an overrated stat. David took high percentage shots limiting this throws to the outside or to working his short game along with the occasional downfield shot to receivers streaking wide open.

Garrard was the textbook definition of game manager. Whenever the game was on the line the best he could do was run the ball, he wasn't a passer that could do it in crunch time.

It's crazy to me that with what the Jaguars fans have endured for 20 years they're in such a rush to get rid of the only guy in the history of the team that could consistently throw for 20+ TDs in a season.

It's simple really. Higher completion percentage and less than 10 total turnovers (including fumbles). Then we have Garrard 2.0 with better talent. It would be like Trenton Dilfer in 2000.
