What?... do you guys know each other? LOL

Quote:OK, nobody is saying he has never been productive. We aren't paying him based off his previous production though. A 1100 yard season doesnt get you 8-10 million per year. He is getting enormously overpaid for one career year when he has only been above average in the past.

If you want to ignore the enormous risk that signing him to maybe the richest running back contract in the league, then be my guest. All that I am saying is that, in my opinion, the risk isnt worth it with so many other options available. I would hate to not draft a Todd Gurley and watch him become the next big thing and then pay another player 10 million.

Why do you think it is a huge risk to sign DeMarco Murray? We are basing it on four productive seasons. Murray has not missed many games in those four years. Signing him is only risky if it causes us to have no more money for veteran players and we have to cut some guys as a result.

I'm surprised that Blaine Gabbert got more than the average of the  NFL Veteran Minimum.

So is Gabbert. I'm sure he jumped at signing that contract.

I'm interested to see how much of the money is guaranteed.

It wasn't that long ago when the 49ers QB situation looked like one of the best in the NFL.

In 2011 and 2012 he split carries with Felix Jones and still produced great numbers.  Saying "one career year" doesn't tell the whole story.  2023 -14 were  the only years he was really the clear centerpiece back.

Yeah, I also think he'd prefer to stay if they come correct with the $$, but....   players often make moves for big guarantees - and the Jags can make that happen.

The Cowboys can't outbid us. If the decision is about money, we win this game.

I agree - but it's only about 300K per year more than minimum - and that's not a ton in NFL dollars these days.

Remember that Demarco has always said he would give a "small" hometown discount so they dont have to match but just get close and i'm sure he will go back to Dallas

Hopefully Murray see the Mavs losing by 40 in person as a sign.

They don't have to though, I'm sure Murray would give them a home town discount.  Now we could offer a whole lot more, but I think that'd put us in a bad situation.  Especially if he winds up injured, or in a year or so starts going downhill.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

I wouldn't lose sleep over missing out on Murray. I have to say Gurley is likely to be a better back. This is similar to the Cardinals passing on Peterson when they signed Edgerrin James a year earlier. James had just ran for 1500 yards the year he hit FA and the Cardinals got two years of okay production while Peterson would rise to the elite level of players in the league.

Similarly Murray may have had one of  the best seasons he could ever have behind one of the best lines in football. It's no secret that his production would slip behind the young Jaguar Line. I'm not doubting Murray's talent, however there is a price point where I would say, nah Gurley is worth either trading back or trading up for.

If Murray lands in Jax its just a bonus. If he doesn't so be it. I'm not getting excited either way.
