Cleveland matches Jags offer for Mack

Quote:If Cleveland is winning at that point, don't count on it.

After the way they ran him through the wringer?  That's just laughable...

Quote:Okay, so today you don't believe the media.  Yesterday, it was gospel.

Huh, the media reported numbers. I believed the numbers were accurate. I'm not disbelieving the media here. I am disbelieving who the media interviewed to get that quote (whichever Browns' rep it was). Theres no way that Cleveland would have taken it that far that the Jags had to go all 5 years guaranteed. Thats nothing but posturing for future benefit, should Cleveland ever transition someone again to scare teams off. Use your head.

Quote:We also now have more cap space than Cleveland, so we've go that going for us, which is nice.

Technically no, at least not for 2014. Mack's transition tag was already calculated into their cap space. Matching this contract actually increased the Browns' cap space by $390k.

Quote:They said they would match. They did.

My FACTS, win over your ASSUMPTIONS.

They said they would match and they did, correct - but we didn't really make it all that difficult for them to keep that stance holding true, either.

Have you ever thought that what Dave offered is the most he wanted to spend at the center position?  You might want to spend 11 or 12 mil a year on a center but not Dave obviously.

It's so simple a child can do it. The Jags offered what they deemed appropriate for the value they had placed on Mack. The Brownies valued him more.

This^  TMD obviously dont understand that for some odd reason.

Quote:No, its (adding Mack) IS a bona fide improvement to the 53 man roster. Thats NOT just "perceived" results.

Going after a player and still missing out on him, gives the aura of a perceived right direction, but until you actually LAND that player, nothing has been gained.

Of course it is perceived.  We don't know the future.  We don't know how it will impact wins/losses.  Everything is perceived, you just perceive what you want to.

No its not that simple....

The Jags also might have offered what they thought Cleveland wouldn't match and simply underestimated.

The Jags needed Mack more than the Browns do, IMO.

Now the Browns don't need a center? Man for your own sake you should retire the keyboard for today.................Really, I'm serious.

It IS that simple. The Browns owner said that he would match any offer. It's a hurdle you can't overcome.

What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

We can look at it like this. Before the news broke that Mack visited us, where was our mindset? The draft and being excited for our future. Let's get back there Smile

GO JAGS!!

Let's Get Em!!!! Go Jags!

If you look at the Browns forums they are praising their FO for being so smart... LIKE THIS WAS THEIR IDEA.

Of course, because you have an agenda.  When you have an agenda you just cherry pick what information backs up your argument and the other information you dismiss.  PFT says something and it is gospel.  Another source says something and you don't believe it.  You believe what you want to believe and will argue to that benefit no matter what comes out.  You either don't see it or you purposefully do it and don't care.

Ah, but $1 or $2 million would have made it that difficult?  Of course not.  You realize this, but you will continue arguing it to protect your argument.

Have you considered that Caldwell offered as much as he was willing to pay?   It wasn't his obligation to offer something that CLE wouldn't match.

It was his duty to offer what fit his perceived value and his plans for the future concerning the cap situation in Jax moving forward.

Cleveland was willing to pay a bit more.  Fine.   It's not about underestimation - it's about value and cap planning.

Cleveland still has 30 mil in cap space. The 30 mil going into this saga the last few days included the 10 mil for Mack already. It will be interesting in a couple years what Mack decides to do. I think a lot will depend on whether the Browns are winning some football games.

They fired their one-and-done head coach, hired a new one, then fired their GM and hired a new one, who's now stuck with a coach he wasn't key in the process of hiring, in that order. Let's just let them have this one.

I didn't believe it before, but now I am becoming convinced that he will criticize this organization no matter what.
