I'm totally bummed out. I had to take my truck to the shop and was just told it would take minimum $2K to fix the problem. Blown head gasket. No warning other than the low coolant light came on last Thursday and the reservoir was low but I couldn't see where coolant was going so I dropped it off yesterday.

It's a 2002 Silverado and that truck has taken me a lot of places in the last 2 decades. 260,000+ miles. There's no way it makes sense to spend over two thousand dollars on a truck that old. I've taken care of it but it probably has other age related issues I don't know about yet and it could turn into a money pit.

I'm just totally bummed.

I am but I don't know if I want to tackle this. Will look it up on youtube to see if anyone has done it to assess the situation. 

My dude told me this one is a pain in the [BLEEP]. The outfit that has done all of the maintenance work on the truck it is not equipped to do it so he said he could personally recommend a place that I know for a fact charges out the butt for oil changes so I know they'll gouge me. Other than that, only the local Chevy dealership. That's what small town living does for you.

Most work on vehicles isn't very hard. Its all about having the knowledge and the correct tools. 

Youtube is very helpful, but unless you are willing to spend the money on getting the correct tools, I wouldn't attempt anything that big. 

I have a garage with almost every tool you could possibly need. So I'm constantly getting hit up from people asking if I will work on this or that. I use to do it all the time, but it's become quite old with working a full time job, working on my own things and trying to work on others. So I started to show people how to work on their own vehicles. Explain what needs done and watch them do their own work. Now I get to walk away happy because I could help someone and they walk away happy because they learned something new and have confidence in themselves.

If thats all thats wrong and you like the truck, then id spend the $. Beats having to buy a whole new truck for 35k minimum. At a payment of $450 a month, if you drive it more than 5 months without any issues after getting it repaired, then youve broken even. Just did something similar with a 2003 Buick Century.

This is what I'm thinking but it's still hard to think about spending a chunk of money on such an old truck. It is a solid one though. My dad was a mechanic at a Chevy dealership back in the day and he said this particular make and model year would last forever if I took care of it, which I have but things break down over time. Now that I'm over the shock I'm more prepared to look at where to take it to get fixed. 

I'm not sentimental about much but I am when it comes to this truck.
