But seriously, if it's legit to cut a guy (or not even give one an opportunity) just because fans despise him then it's just as legit to give a guy a roster spot just because fans love him.  The NFL is a business after all.

We aren't even past the Dead Zone yet, this thread didn't need his foolishness to make it to 100 because it was always going to make 200 anyway.

Sure, as soon as you show me proof that he won't be in the final roster.

Just a few things:

1.-He is friends with the HC
2.-He already sold a lot of jerseys
3.-What do you think Khan thinks about #2? the guy only cares about the money, media attention etc
4.-Keep Tebow and the jerseys sales numbers will continue. He probably will sell tickets too.

He will make the team and they will try to make him shine in the end zone.

When we watch... we will see right?  I mean we are meh at TE so after a few months of this excessively lengthy thread, I have come to the realization that Khan is meh too. This position group won't matter this year.  If Chark, Shenault, Etienne, Robinson and the rest of the skill players are clutch what does it matter if Timmy is on the team?

The Tebow Denialists lose all sense of logic and reason when it comes to Tebow.

It was obvious as soon as Urban was hired and Tebow gave up baseball what was going to happen.

It seems like you're laying a foundation for him to make the team for reasons other than merit, and to score touchdowns for reasons othere than merit.

If it's that simple to "shine around the endzone" in the NFL, I don't know why more teams don't pick a player and have him "shine." You get 6 points for it. Could win some games just from a marketing decision.

He said TRY to.. even though he sucked at it in his prime... couldn't even get a first down versus Tyson Alualu.

And yes, he's currently on the team for reasons other than merit. He's an old man that was never good in the NFL. There's ZERO reason he should be on any roster, ever at any point.

Just making sure -- the clarification by both you and poster were helpful.  Now it's a little more etched in stone -- the prediction is that he will be handed endzone opportunities by the Jags, and he will fail.  I thought you were going for the idea "he will score, but it will be because they wanted him to shine." (Which, you're right, is silly, which is why I said "not that simple.")

But by emphasizing the the "they will TRY" part of it to save it, it's clear now your assessment is that Tebow would (and will) fail if asked to run the ball near the goal line.  Obviously, I think otherwise, but there's no point in hashing that out again.

Can you imagine how it will feel for Ellefson or Davis to be cut so they can keep Tebow? How it will feel for JRob or ETN to be on the sideline while Teebs gets redzone snaps? Like Sweetness watching Perry score in the Super Bowl.

Tebow won't make the final roster. He probably won't even survive the first round of cuts.

Maybe we should wait for that to actually happen before we get all hot and bothered about it.

Like a forced fumble returned 90 yards for a TD kind of highlight reel?

Or do you mean an SEC defender from 14 years ago that couldn’t stop Tebow?

Because in the 2021 NFL, ain’t nobody shying away from or harboring concern about  hitting Tim Tebow.

It's not about getting hit, it's about getting scored upon.

Because it's apparently been firmly established here that he can't even run the ball well.

I've never had the mentality if a troll, but I must confess it's quite a rush to praise a Jags player and field one supposed Jags fan after another that mocks him and cherishes the thought of him failing.

It's par for the course for Tebow, but after all these years I continue to find it fascinating.

This works both ways.

While I don’t wish anything but success for Tebow despite your annoying insistence to the contrary, I simply don’t have any faith in him resurrecting an NFL career -  while you seem to believe it’s still 2013 for Tebow’s athletic ability for sone reason.

Similar to your fascination that some Jags fans think he stinks, I’m fascinated with the number of Tebow homers like yourself who think he’s going to be successful running the ball in the NFL after all these years, one of which involved him sucking at running the ball in the NFL.

Oh, and yes, it IS about getting hit. Unless you have some new way defenders are going to stop a ball carrier from scoring in the red zone.

No, you misunderstood on the "getting hit." Let me unpack -- I made a crack in response to the "can you imagine how it would feel" line about the pressure of being between Tebow and the goal line. My point was the pressure of making the tackle, not letting him score, etc. Because of all the attention it will get if he were to ever score again, and you'd be the guy that he got by. Another poster misunderstood, and thought I meant an NFL player would be afraid of taking the hit -- which is laughable; that NFL player is going to be looking to deliver a hit, not worried about getting hit. So I tried to clarify (as I have again above), but you then you went down the road of thinking I somehow meant tackling doesn't involve hitting. That was a wrong turn -- the point is the "all eyes are watching" pressure if Tebow ever sees the field.

As for resurrecting his career -- that's not where I'm at. I've already said I have a hard time imagining him making the team. I'm in my 50's, and I remember the degradation in my abilities as I hit 34. So I'm following this like watching the movie Rudy or something -- i.e. questions like can he make the team? Can he contribute? Could he help on special teams? If he's able to hold down a backup position, will they have some plays that are designed for him? It would be such a rush to watch Tebow throw a key, sacrfice-your-body block to put somebody in the endzone for a key touchdown, near the end of his career and he finds a way to help his team.

It's a potentially cool subplot, and one I'll enjoy no matter how things go. The only way I really differ from most fair people here is (1) I think he was good football player to begin with; (2) I think he's one of the most talented short yardage runners of all time, and (3) I think he's an NFL caliber athlete by any measure. I think my opinions on that are the conventional ones -- that's pretty much the official book on Tebow from an NFL perspective, and I don't think Jags fans should think there's some crony-conspiracy if he makes the team or sees the field. Trust the process -- he'll get cut if he can't play. You can't hide in this league with only 53 on the roster. Every single player has to be able to flat out play.

There's really only one round of cuts now - they go straight from 90 to 53.  It does happen over the course of a couple of days though, so it might be more accurate to say he will likely be released in the first 'wave' of cuts maybe?
