Fiesta Bowl thread: Okay Bortles...impress me.

Quote:I'd be alright if we ended up with Bortles.  I dont know that I like him at 3 overall.  But I dont really like any of these QBs at 3 overall.  They all have big question marks to me.  But its a QB league.  Thats all the matters.  So you get them where you can.

I do think Bortles can be a good NFL QB.  I've said before but I think as far as a college scouting report, he is a bigger version of Dalton with a slightly better arm.  And I think he handles pressure a little better than Dalton.  Although I thought Dalton was fine with that in college.  Again Bortles doesnt do anything great but he seems to do everything well and almost always make the smart play.  He is effective throwing down the field(moreso than Teddy as the stats indicate) and the guy is a winner.  He leads his team on clutch drives when they need a score.

Last night wasnt a great game for him but you look up and he has 300 yards a bunch of TDs and actually ran effectively.  He wasnt asked to throw down the field much but then again he didnt have to.  We all remember when Tom Brady was like 26-28 in the playoff game against us 6 or so years ago.  He only threw one pass more than 5 yards down the field all game.  But it worked.  Last night Baylor's CBs were basically holding on to UCF's WR in tight coverage all game long.  Spread them out horizontally and Baylor couldnt stop it.  He had two picks but I thought both were great plays by the defense.

Ideally you could get a guy like Bortles early in the 2nd but Im not sure that is possible.  Ideally we wouldnt have to trade half our draft to move up for Teddy but Im not sure thats possible.  We'll probably have give up more than we want for whatever QB we draft unless we luck out.
I'm on my way driving from MN back to MD and i was listening to espn radio on XM and they were talking about the playoff coming up on saturday and sunday and they were talking about Rivers vs Dalton and one of the things they talked about was how Dalton doesn't handle pressure well and statistically he's one of the worst Qbs under pressure, but his O line is great and he usually isn't under pressure which is why he's been doing well these past few years. So to compare him to Dalton I think is an insult.

And as for that first pick, I think if he throws that ball to an NFL receiver it gets either caught or batted down by the receiver. Watching that throw it looked like his WR didn't even try and get it.
