This is true for 29 of the starting quarterbacks in the league though. 

The entire point of working from the pocket is that you are surrounded by 5, 6 sometimes 7 players with specific blocking assignments and your peripheral vision can learn and adapt to "feel" when one or more of those protections is failing.

Outside the pocket all of that structure goes away and very few athletes have that keen awareness to "feel" a defender once removed from that controlled environment as it becomes much, much more unpredictable. 

Watching young Ben Rothlisberger and Aaron Rodgers or McNabb back in the day extend plays outside the pocket the way they do/did is a very rare thing. Not many have that innate ability.
