Calais Campbell was absolutely gushing about Smoot and his abilities.  He could be better than just a rotational guy when the dust settles.  The team needed to address both lines.  They looked at their options and decided Smoot was the best one for the team in that spot.  Not knocking Feeney at all, but if you can get a guy who can affect the QB and disrupt offenses, he's going to have more value than a guard, IMO.

Considering some of the other silly things Calais has gushed about so far, I think we should be looking at his endorsements as that of an exuberant teammate and not as a legitimate appeal to authority.
