Not to be too nitpicky, but Jacksonville didn't get the team in October 1993. It was November 30 1993.
Charlotte got the team in October, and the owners waited another month to announce the second one. They were actually waiting for St. Louis to get their act together, but that never materialized. I don't think they had much interest in Baltimore, since the Redskins laid claim to that territory. To this day there are people in St. Louis and Baltimore who believe the Jags should be their team. I was living in Atlanta. Someone told me Jax got a team, and I didn't believe it. I thought St. Louis had it. Only when I called my dad, and heard him screaming in joy, with the TV news announcement in the background. |
