He used to "write on tablets of stone" (IE the Law and religion), but now he writes on "human hearts". Which happens through his Spirit coming in and establishing himself inside of you so that you actually grow closer to God. Which is more relationship than religion. It's not based off of rules.

 

It's like: God loves me and thinks I'm valuable, so how could I not love him with everything I am, love people like Jesus did, and do what God says? Not to satisfy a checklist of rules, but because its a love relationship.
