NFL.com - Allen Robinson, Jaguars talk contract extension

#22

I had mixed feelings about this as well. But now I think it's pretty clear they need to get this done at a fair price. 40 games started at 201 receptions with 2,831 yards through the air with 22 TD's is a solid building block. Especially when he's only going to be 24 years old next month leading into the regular season. All of his production is coming from a QB who averages with a 58.8% completion percentage. That's pretty terrible.

You look at the top receivers in the NFL right now. If you had to make a Mt. Rushmore of the top four. You would naturally feel inclined to say Julio Jones, Antonio Brown, Odell Beckham Jr. & T.Y Hilton (Maybe A.J Green). It depends on the fourth man. But the clear cut top trio is Jones, Brown & Beckham. Period.

So Julio Jones benefits from Matt Ryan and playing inside a dome nine times a year. Ryan has completion percentage of 64.9% career wise. The last five years though he's averaged no less than 66% and hit 69% last year.

Antonio Brown benefits from Ben Roethlisberger whose been a fairly accurate passer his entire career with a 64.1% completion percentage. He's been coming off of 64 - 68% completion percentages the past three years.

Eli Manning. Despite his ups and downs and tendency to turn it over. He at least manages to hit the 60% or higher mark. He finished at 63% last year. So Beckham Jr. is benefiting from that.

One last stat based on 2016 alone.

Robinson was targeted 151 times.
Jones was targeted 129 times....
Brown was targeted 154 times....
Beckham Jr. was targeted 169 times...

Bit of a mixed bag there. But that shows you how important that completion percentage and accuracy is. If you placed Robinson on a team with a better QB. He's probably capable of putting up those very same gaudy numbers you see from the elite in the NFL.
