Smoot is a strong side DE. A relatively low impact position on defense. Even if he's an average NFL strong side DE in year 1, you aren't going to notice him that much.

After paying a fortune to get a guy the Jags feel will be an elite strong side DE, it was bizarre they drafted a backup strong side DE in the third round instead of adding a quality interior offensive lineman. That decision is made even more bizare given the official Jag media told us 24/7 last year towards the end of the season that the team didn't have a LG + team added zero quality players at that position or center.
