Well actually, he did do some good things:

for starters, he didn't do anything overtly stupid to give the game away. No picks (though he did have a close one), no fumbles.

secondly, after watson made some yards with his legs during their scoring drive (with no small amount of help from the refs) bortles came out and did a very nicely executed quarterback keeper and picked up good yardage with his legs.

thirdly, given the absolutly pathetic way his passes have wobbled through the air before, he was throwing nice tight spirals; to bad we had so many drops of passes that really, really, should have been caught!

Doing something 'special' (more often than not) isn't about 'grandstanding'.... it's about consistant sound play. Bortles played a sound game against the texans. Absolutely he was helped by having a semblance of a useful running game for a change so he wasn't having to try to do it all with his arm. In this game, we ran more than we threw which tended to take the wind out of Houstons pass rushing defence. That was intelligent game planning for a change! 

We have a much improved defence which looked even better than maybe they really are due to Houstons offensive line woes. I don't think that what happened during the first half of that game was entirely savages fault... his line wasn't helping him much at all.
