He had no reason to panic. The line had initial protection and we could win in the trenches most of the time. He could throw checkdowns for first downs. Showed pocket awareness and poise. The stats weren't great but no turnovers and no big negative plays. Much like Alex Smith a change in system completely changed the national perspective on the player. Now he's one of the better QB's in the league and has had a long career. Good coaching, smart scheme, physical team, I would expect positive results from Bortles. However, if we get into a shootout and fall behind and ask a lot out of him it's time to expect the worst.

When your able to physically impose your will up front and keep the opposing defense on the field their pass rush deteriorates as the game goes. I'm glad we kept the read option wrinkle in our offense.
