Impressions From The Texans Game

#30

Just got power back on the Southside. I noticed something before the game that I heard Mike Dempsey comment on the other day. JJ Watt was hyperventilating on the sidelines before the game even started. He couldn't get a breath. They showed him dousing himself with water before the game, and it wasn't even hot.

The Texans, and especially Watt, put a lot of pressure on themselves to deliver a beat-down for flood-ravaged Houston. The thing is, 2 weeks of disrupted routine + physical and emotional exhaustion takes its toll. Also, the Jags had their own concerns about the conditions in Florida and the people riding out the storm back home. Monday and Tuesday without power was a lot easier to handle because Jags radio was a happy, happy place.

Back to the game, when the Jags offense didn't implode on that first drive, and they actually took the lead with a FG, I knew they were gonna win and I hadn't even seen the defense play yet. I can't say enough about the effort by the whole team. This defense could be scary, which takes a lot of pressure off the offense to be perfect. But the offense can bring its own kind of pressure with Fournette and Ivory. If teams don't come ready to tackle, our RBs will embarrass people. Marrone is a good coach and it was awesome seeing Keenan on the sidelines. I think this can be a playoff team this year and in the years to come.

As to the Titans, they will have this circled as a must-win. But I think our D will keep us in most games. When you hold teams to 1 or 2 scores a game you can win lots of games with good special teams play or by getting a late turnover, sack or call in your favor. Or just dumb luck - let the other team give you the game, it happens often enough. If the Jags can scratch out a win against the Tacks, that would be huge, just as big as the win in Texas as far as impact on the season and the division.
