I don't see him amounting to much, outside of being a solid backup in the NFL.

You can't coach up the kinds of attributes that Mallett already does possess. 

 

As far as trouble reading defenses at the college level.....if his 9.5 YPA and consistent downfield strikes is of a guy that has trouble reading defenses then I'd really fear him as an opponent if coached well.....

 

Mallett's intermediate game in college was very good. Chunks of yardage at a time. Passes completed in tight coverage perfectly over the shoulder.

I think it would be very foolish to go with Mallet instead of guys you mentioned.  With the guys listed here, you know they can get you to the playoffs.

Mallet could become a huge bust.  He could be worse than Gabbert.  He could also be injury prone once he starts taking hits.  I could say that with just as much certainty as you can claiming he has superbowl winning potential. 

 

 

 

 

 

Gabbert was unimpressive in college. He did not complete passes downfield on a consistent basis. In fact his completion pct on pass attempts over 15 yards was like one of the worst of the projected draftees that year.
