He did it in case Bortles had a turn around season and played a lot better under Marrone. Bortles is still inaccurate and inconsistent.

It's really not that hard to connect the dots. Instead of arguing with everyone about this topic, think it through and jump on board!

If the decision was for a player at the vast majority of other positions  (  maybe even all other positions ),  the Jaguars probably wouldn't have picked up the option if the player was the equivalent of Blake Bortles is as QB.   Because the demand for quality QBs is higher than the supply and the Jaguars had the salary cap flexibility,  it's understandable why they picked up Bortles'  5th year option.  Especially, when also factoring in what you mentioned regarding the improvement Bortles displayed under then interim HC Doug Marrone  late last season.   It's near certain that the Jaguars QB room in 2018 won't look anything like the current QB room.
