I remove all the blame from Blake, it's the coaches and WR's too

Because the demand for quality QBs is higher than the supply and the Jaguars had the salary cap flexibility, it's understandable why they picked up Bortles' 5th year option. Especially, when also factoring in what you mentioned regarding the improvement Bortles displayed under then interim HC Doug Marrone late last season. It's near certain that the Jaguars QB room in 2018 won't look anything like the current QB room. FWIW, David Carr said during the preseason Blake Bortles needs to get out of Jacksonville and "start over," adding he liked Bortles during the 2014 draft. This sounded like Carr took a subtle shot at his former coach because Tom Coughlin is the man responsible for keeping Bortles in Jacksonville. However, the fact that Bortles played his best game when Marrone replaced Gus Bradley validates my argument that Bradley, a DC who knows nothing about developing QBs, was directly at fault for Bortles struggling all year. That would explain why Carr thinks Bortles is on the wrong team if Doug Marrone also was fired, but the decision to keep Marrone was primarily to help Bortles. This complicates the idea that starting over is the right move for Bortles, who then would have to learn a new offense with different teammates, etc. If this was the main reason for keeping Marrone why would we want to tell #5 he does not belong here? The QB room could still have Ryan Nassib, who Coughlin signed because they were together with the Giants. I don't know much about him as a QB except he is right-handed and has a #4 jersey. |
