Simple math tells you he'll make about 10 million per year if healthy and on the field, but my point was that David plays the same position as Smith while the other compared player's contract is for playing MLB. They get paid more.

It is complicated math with those numbers. When discussing franchise tag vs. long term contract, the annual salary is what matters.
